30/1/2018 15:12 | To be honest that level of technical detail isn't required to get a grip of the investment potential. As long as I understand the market, products and where IQE fit in its enough for an investment case. I'm here to make money, not to say I haven't picked some knowledge due to my interests here. | poombear
30/1/2018 15:11 | I think it's going to be very hard for IQE to put out any meaningful PR. At least with ARM, they could talk about their products and highlight the end impact to the ecosystem who would end up programming them. There's not much the end user can do with a 1000th of a wafer that ended up in a VCSEL in a hard drive. Pretty much all of the metrics that IQE can talk about are way above the standard investor's understanding. What would you have them talk about? | sheep_herder
30/1/2018 15:00 | i think sweeny is an analyst at one of the big houses. he posts his opinions on here because he is not allowed to be so bullish in house. GS would slaughter him, even if this were a 'confidence' call, if he were so upfront. i hope i'm right but, either way, his info is spot on. | adejuk
30/1/2018 14:51 | Thanks Sheepy - I tend to agree, but the ‘technicalR Poombear- thanks SO much for that link that I had missed, I had not realised Seagate had already been mentioned in IQE literature, albeit a long time ago, smacked my own wrist for missing THAT link. All the clues pointed to a major relationship ( Seagate after all are the ONLY company doing meaningful work on HAMR) but it still is very very nice to see that the relationship is SO long term, I will bore you all by repeating that I believe this HAMR stuff is going to be a very serious revenue earner, along with others in the pipeline for 2018 :-) 1 point about IQE’s PR , other than it’s completely useless I KNOW they are affected big-time by NDA’s and are aware of customers ‘sensitivities Many will know what I mean There are always ways and means but we need intent on behalf of management too. I will be bringing the PR aspect up at the June 4th AGM - credit where it is due, it’s nice to get very early confirmation of that date this year S | sweenoid

30/1/2018 14:44 | Had a quick look at the different research houses and it seems out them all, Barclays are the most bullish up to now. 2017 2018 2019 EDISON Revenue 132,707 150,112 165,230 EBITDA 31,730 35,461 40,288 EPS 3 3.26 3.56 N+1 Revenue 150,200 176,000 201,000 EBITDA 25,000 36,000 43,000 EPS 3.4 4.2 4.7 Peel Revenue 144,400 154,100 163,900 EBITDA 34,000 36,000 38,000 EPS 3.3 3.5 3.8 BarclaysRevenue 154,850 188,012 235,281 EBITDA 35,887 51,440 74,081 EPS 3 5 6 | drobinson1991
30/1/2018 14:17 | It also mentions Seagate. Your post was far to boring for me to actually read. | poombear
30/1/2018 14:16 | i like the idea of rowe buying back their borrowed stock well below the 140 they lent it for. they should squeeze harder. | adejuk
30/1/2018 13:59 | poombear, aside from it mentioning HAMR, what is the relevance to my post? | sheep_herder
30/1/2018 13:18 | Sheepy just to confirm the iqe connection. | poombear
30/1/2018 12:54 | This chap works for Seagate and if you're technically inclined, might be an interesting read: | sheep_herder
30/1/2018 12:32 | sweenoid, I forgot to post this when you first mentioned it, but those HAMR drives seem to be the reason IQE purchased those quasi photonic crystal patents. When I first looked at the patents I posted that it looked like the tech was used to increase the efficiency when coupling planar waveguides to fibre optics and on-chip lasers. If you read some of the papers on HAMR, a large part of the story is how to increase the efficiency of coupling the light output to the magnetic substrate without overheating the head. IMO, it seems to match up nicely. | sheep_herder

30/1/2018 09:46 | Mike Pompeo, CIA announces Trump will nationalise the 5 G network to keep the Chinese out and make it secure. What are the implications for IQE | tonsil
30/1/2018 09:15 | Excuse O/T, re FTC, but should be of interest to technology investors here: Anyone convinced of the huge potential of 5G may consider that after today's results announcement which though a profit warning was no surprise and more or less a repeat of the recent trading update, FTC share price is now at good entry point. The slippage in the ramp up of the £4.8m defense contract for broadband equipment which caused the share price to fall will correct itself in due course and there is the strong likelihood that further orders will come through for this product due to increased order wins by the end customer. Additonally a couple of potentially lucrative developments in the Antenna space have been announced today: "As part of our strategy to engage with mobile network operators ("MNOs") we are pleased to report that we have now been approved as one of the vendors of a major US MNO for a "5G evolution" antenna. Having only recently been advised of our approval, it will take some time to work with our client's regional network planning teams and installers before we can determine our likely volume and value allocations and before any firm orders are received. This particular product has been developed to meet the MNO's specification and uses licensed assisted access ("LAA") frequencies as well as licensed high band spectrum. These frequencies are utilised by a number of MNOs and OEMs and we therefore anticipate that this achievement will open up further opportunities for other variants in due course. In addition to our work to secure new customers, we continue to develop opportunities with our existing OEM clients and we are particularly pleased to report that we have been awarded a development contract for a high band Massive MIMO antenna. The development road map contains some aggressive timescales for delivery and is a technically challenging product to develop but we are pleased to report that we are currently on track to meet these goals. This project is strategically significant to both us and our OEM customer as it enables MNOs to significantly increase capacity within their networks at spectrums for which they already hold licences by deploying 3D beamforming techniques. This ability to steer beams to individual devices is a fundamental technique that will be required under the much higher frequencies proposed for 5G networks. Whilst there is no assurance that this development contract will convert to a volume production contract we are optimistic that initial production orders will be received in FY2019. Filtronic has a strong technology proposition for 5G. Our knowledge of network access products, both filtering and antennas and our know-how of mmWave products and manufacturing techniques are key, as is our relationship with the leading OEMs. We are now aligning our technology and sales teams so that we can leverage these strengths, to secure a strong position in the nascent 5G technology market. In support of this strategy we recently partnered with the University of Surrey's 5G Innovation Centre in order to align our activities with world leading academic research". | rogerrail
30/1/2018 09:04 | Sweenoid, TRP's lending stock out to shorters isn't really bizarre if they intend to continue to increase their own stake as a long-term core shareholder. The actions of the shorters bring down the share price and enable TRP to buy more shares for themselves at a lower price while also picking up a small fee for lending out stock. The extra stock they seemingly lent out on the 25th does not seem to be reflected yet on stocktracker. I wonder whether this is to an existing shorter increasing their short bet or whether it's a new player in the game. | galatea99
30/1/2018 09:01 | All good stuff sweenoid. I very much hope the company have cleared the decks and from now on all announcement will be as positive and detailed as they can get away with. There are lots of tantalising glimpses, but at some point we need to have meat on the bones. | mad foetus
