I suspect that the nature of the market and the way people react to the headline numbers will mean a down day or two this week, however the trend for the future looks solid and this bb may look better after some of the recent "frothy" investors have gone. The world in 2017 is one of extremes, so everything is "the best thing ever" or "a disaster" balanced views are a rare thing ;) I look forward to the conf call report later. GLTAL's

For the informed investors, there was no surprise, for me the adjusted profit excluding license fees, was up 30%, as hoped for. So all good.

The ramp up has started, I'm interested in what the forecast is now for ye18.

I like the repeated references to "near term" growth and industry disruption.

Happy to hold through any volatility. The mention of the "application, which relates to a sensing technology, helped deliver record sales for IQE in June" is a heavy enough clue to what's going on.

Some traders might leave, but anyone who's really interested here should be staying in long-term.

My read is that this will disappoint the market where huge expectations have been built over the past months.
Seeing negative growth in operating profit, net profit, and eps will spook the market.

Day trippers will head for the exit and bank their considerable gains.

SP will dive this morning. That's the psychology of the market.

IQE management will have to work extremely hard at the presentation later today to sell the future benefits and prospects especially for photonics/ VCSEL angle. Anything less than a convincing flawless performance by management will get punished.

All in my opinion and I may be totally wrong. I am allowing you to throw stones at me after the bell if I am way wrong.

It is indeed all about the near-term future and I really enjoyed reading the outlook on POWER applications:

"The size and scale of these markets are many times larger than IQE's
existing markets, so these represent truly transformational
opportunities for IQE."

worth at least $12 billion, which is approximately 4x the size of the

The more relative check on progress is the adjusted operating profit:

H1 16 10.782m incl (3.5m licensing - most upfront)
H1 17 10.551m incl (1.0m " - no upfront)

Licensing is noted as all profit, so minus licensing, we have:

H1 16 7.282m
H1 17 9.551m

The growth (discounting licensing) is therefore 31% - not a bad start to the ramp up, as I guess it came mainly in June.

Exactly as I expected,
As per early comments here, 'some' won't read past the figures at the top which represent ancient history :-), the KEY is what's happening now and in the future.
I talked about management managing expectations and that's exactly what they have done ✅ . The comment that Hammerd made is extremely salient , just in that ONE LINE, that the new premises could hold 100 machines , IQE is in effect informing the market about the potential and growth of this business, that comment was measured and very very illuminating.

In summary,The statement reiterated what the IMS told us and we know from previous statements but alludes in a very significant way ( to those that actually READ the statement) about the potential massive growth, and for INVESTORS that's what earns us the £££; :-)

We are not interested in the past, it's the future we are looking to and the CEO's comments are very positive in this respect.

Any attempt by the "shorters" to mark the price down at the opening will only provide the opportunity to buy cheap stock.

The Group has continued to make good strategic, operational and financial progress in 2017, and has a clear vision and roadmap for the continuing growth of the business. The first half progressed well, and ended strongly with the start of a major new product ramp. In light of the benefit of a strong pipeline and increasing revenue diversification the Board remains confident that the Group is on track to deliver full year earnings in line with the recently upgraded expectations.

This is the part that counts but slightly disappointing that no upgrades at this time.
