06/5/2015 07:50 | Finally analysts are starting to realise the Chile problem. Why ESG research matters for mainstream investors by Robert McConnaughey, Director of Global Research, Columbia Threadneedle Investments. Building a research process supported from multiple perspectives that include ESG work is, in our view, the only way to properly identify those sorts of risks and opportunities. They use Chile as one example. Copper mining is a water-intensive process and, in the midst of a serious drought, the Chilean government is acting on concerns surrounding mine water use from the broader community. The only solution for the massive mines will be desalination plants that will significantly raise the cost of mining. Chile is not alone in these sorts of concerns, but is particularly relevant because it is a low-cost producer and the source of more than one-third of the world’s copper production. | superg1
05/5/2015 12:22 | The quoted share price is clearly false, just due to the early AT trade. Much more buying than selling so far.NAI | cyberbub

05/5/2015 11:54 | Hi Fest, no nowt to do with QFI. A friend of mine took on the task of fixing my PC cos hes a techy genius with loads of techy contacts. It took him a while but he fixed and massively upgraded my pc for 120 quid. It would have cost me 4 times that if id done it myself. Took 5 weeks though. | bogg1e
05/5/2015 07:25 | SQM numbers. SQM guess that the world demand in 2014 was 31,600 mt. They forecast the demand will rise 1400 mt this year to 33,000 mt. They also state they supplied 26% of the market last year, that figure doesn't add up re the amount they sold when considering 31,600 mt or the forecast 33,000. Interestingly in Q4 2014 they suggested 28% of the market which would more or less match what they claim to have sold. But then there is that drop of 17% of Caliche mined at NV, yet apparently the produced iodine figure remained the same ? Nothing adds up with their figures, and we are talking about the fraudster previous CEO who spouted the figures, so I'm treating them as unreliable. | superg1
05/5/2015 06:53 | It also mentions water rights 'In any case, although many of the water rights have never been exploited, SQM achieved with this restraining competition, which was taken to court in the event that utilize these waters for their tasks without legal permission. The new amendment to the Water Code, should be approved by Congress, prevents maintain water rights without using them.' That's a dig at SQM who took Cosayach to court when Cosayach stole water from an aquifer where SQM have rights. That line tells a story as when Cosayach took the water it started to affect a nearby national reserve. That tends to suggest that although SQM have the rights, if they try to take the water, environmental damage would occur. So it seems they have little expansion opportunities where they are. The Cosayach pipeline goes to that area. | superg1
05/5/2015 06:49 | This one is well worth a read if you want to understand the situation re SQM and lithium re the CORFO situation where they want to either suspend or renegotiate leases with SQM. It also has a line re iodine which sums up what we have said for a while re the price drop. 'Caliche deposits in the Region of Tarapaca traditional mining work to produce iodine and lead the market, thanks to an aggressive strategy to try to manage prices and void your competitors and DSM Minera SCM Cosayach. In other words, as said all along, they are trying to put Cosayach out of business. Cosayach has lithium leases that SQM wants and also has a seawater pipeline. Cosayach have huge payments to make and SQM want to take them out cheaply. target='window'>h | superg1
05/5/2015 00:44 | Bogg1e, I have to assume that you have been offline for so long, because you couldn't afford a new PC, due to the appalling performance of QFI ??By the way, I'm getting a new one out of this weeks GVC dividend. | festario

04/5/2015 08:51 | China growth is slowing, Saudi wants market share back and US frackers are cherry picking the best sites. This should give us a bit more predictability wrt brine supply for our existing and potential sites. Plus giving our partners a bit more motivation to give us a constant stream of brine. 04/5/2015 01:33 | My pc blew up about 5 weeks ago. Just back up and running. Spent the last 4 hours going through 1200 posts! Jeez. Anyhow, thanks for the excellent research as ever SG. Bought another 31,400 shares at 32.75. Peed off by the huge spread atm. makes me wonder if MMs arent trying to keep the share price down. Only 1 month to go max before we hear the water permit result. Hopefully before May 12th then we may get a much more rounded update on the results incl. JVs, poss IOC expansion, further plants etc. SG you mentioned about 700 posts back about pensylvania possibly throwing a spanner in the works. can you elaborate pls? DCgray - congrats on your new position as director! Also it was ace meeting with you and phil in Windsor. Most enjoyable. looking forward to the next meet up! | bogg1e
03/5/2015 10:15 | SQM production details for 2014 added into the header. The SEC had refused their form 20-F (SQM news) as it was completed prior to Contesse and co getting the boot. SQM have released it though in news for viewing. Unsurprisingly there are some numbers that don't add up, as in the header. | superg1
02/5/2015 22:48 | Post results no doubt the IOF team will be in London completing presentations, as it stands that should be on the back of good production performance and some good figures. ---- No,on both counts. | irnbru2
02/5/2015 22:43 | Arli ain't me, although, it has to be said, there was a bit of drinking. For me it was voddy, you know how you have a wee sip in the morning as a pick up, then, when you divide not to go to work, you hit both the voddy and the BB. Arli, mostly,is a beer man, during the day. Look, this is serious, why is it every thing I ever read or see about this share, makes me think this is a scam. | irnbru2
