m1 - The original reasons for BA taking over / joining up with Iberia are:

1. To increase BA's exposure to the Latin American routes, flying passengers from the UK via Madrid then on Iberia.

2. If the Northern, North Atlantic route to the USA air traffic controllers went on strike BA could fly its passengers to Madrid then use Iberia for the Southern, Northern Atlantic route to the USA.

3. If BA staff went on strike, their passengers could be transferred on to Iberia flights and flown down to Madrid for onward travel.

962.....agree about pulling BA and going it alone. To be honest becoming part of IAG made little sense to me , although it has made Walsh extremely wealthy.

As for the withholding tax....it seems to me that we would be substantially better off, as you would only be paying UK tax on the full dividend amount, rather than losing the withholding tax and then paying UK tax as well.

if you could reclaim the withholding tax, you would only be paying UK Tax on that amount.

Spanish withholding tax is currently 19.5%

"£100 fine? Plenty of people will just take a chance."

The £100 fine is for not completing the online location contact form..

There's a separate £1000 fine if the person subsequently breaks the self-quarantine rule..

"Passengers arriving in the UK will be required to fill out an online locator contact form - providing details of where they will spend their 14 days in self-isolation."

"There will be a fine of £100 for failure to complete the form, and the Border Force will have the power to refuse entry to non-UK citizens who do not comply with the new regulations."

"n England, a breach of self-isolation would be punishable by a £1,000 fixed penalty notice, or prosecution and an unlimited fine for persistent offenders."

"Did we not just have that conversation the french ? Result no quarantine both side"

The only exceptions to the quarantine rule are Ireland, IoM, Channel Islands. France is not on the list.

"The requirement will also not apply to those travelling from the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man."

m1k.re spanish tax.If we could claim it back, without any doubt we would be stung with UK tax,and to be honest it's minutely more beneficial as it is now.National Flag carrier, who cares.Who is the US national flag carrier.Who would be contenders from UK.Ryan air irish not British.Easyjet/jet 2 go no further than europe.Virgin, well there is the question,2 of their bail out contenders are Cyrus/Greybull.Two of the biggest asset strippers ever. For Cyrus just look at Flybe. In 15 months, went in,stripped ,and came out with a profit.Greybull, look at Monarch and Comet electrical,in/strip/out at profit. So VS dodgy to survive at the moment,if they get away with i'd give em 2 years at most. For me best bet, pull BA out of IAG,and go it alone.

14 day quarantine is possibly a clever ploy by gov. It could act as a bartering tool with Mediterranean countries about lifting for concessions here or elsewhere.
Why be the only country with open borders?
Am just saying ;)
Got Cummings mits all over it!

14 day quarantine is ridiculous and totally unenforceable.

I think the 14 day quarantine has killed off summer hols abroad and people won't even attempt to book autumn/winter hols until the govn relaxes the rule..

Maybe there should be discriminatory claim for British nominee account Shareholders not being able to reclaim Spanish Withholding tax.

From Iberia today (it'll be refreshing for those who focus on just bashing BA to the point of tinnitus for everyone else)..."Between April and May we made over 40 repatriation flights, around 80 transport flights for health matters and a few regular flights, with Paris, London and within Spain but now we preparing for a return to flying and we hope to increase passenger flights as countries lift restrictions. We are all aware that many things are going to change and that we will have to adapt, not least airlines and our passengers in how we travel.  Now is that time....... All passengers must wear masks......reinforcing cabin air is refreshed every 2-3 minutes and cleaning air removing 99.9% of bacteria and viruses.

962.....please follow the link to find the accounts of IAG SA submitted to companies house.

I also pay Spanish tax, which is one of my bête noires......
Not that we pay it BUT that we are unable to reclaim it , IF it is held in a nominee account, which most UK shareholders will use.

It seems we agree about there being NO BA Directors paid by BA, which just goes to demonstrate that BA are even less of a British company and potentially much more of a Spanish company than would appear at first glance.

Should it really still be the National Flag carrier ???

m1k.you do make it hard for me.Iag do not submit any accounts to companies house.IAG are not a british company,as you say, registered in Spain, and due to that fact submit the group figs to the spanish equivalent of companies house.I and many others on this site pay spanish tax on dividends, not UK tax.The directors are employed and renumerated by IAG.There are no, repeat no BA directors, there are IAG directors who's responsibily is the running of BA within the group but thats it.

962.......really don't understand your point.
British Airways PLC submit their own accounts to Companies House.

IAG submit Group Accounts to companies house but Primarily to Spain, were they are registered..

The BA Accounts will obviously be included in the IAG Accounts as it is Group reporting.

The point I was making was about BA Directors being Employed and remunerated by IAG.
it seems that there is little left of the 'British' in British Airways.
