andrbea, you are killing the thread with your generalist posts. which is a pity. you are obviously enthusiastic, which is great, but perhaps in order to keep the igp thread a bit more tightly focussed/relevant you could start a research post and plonk them in there.

no hard feelings i hope.

Gemalto deliver biometric passports too (eg for Estonia)

As a means of facilitating increased international travel, automating identity verification, speeding immigration inspections, and improving border protection and security, many countries are adopting advanced technologies in their immigration and border controls. Specifically, they are contracting advanced chip technology firms to implant biometric chips in new passports and other documents that provided added security while improving border crossing processes.

Gemalto, which provided SIM cards and software to the telecom industry, also has made a name for itself with its digital security solutions for the banking, retail, enterprise, and public sectors. As the company says, it creates solutions so that "only the right people can use them to identify themselves, make a transaction, or communicate."

Now, Gemalto has been named by the Citizenship and Migration Board of Estonian Republic as provider of choice for future Estonian electronic passports. Gemato's comprehensive turnkey e-passport solution will include everything from manufacturing and binding of the passports to implanting the microchips containing Gemalto's Setec biometric identification technology.

At the heart of the solution is a large capacity contactless microchip running a secure operating system is embedded in a damage resistant module in the passport booklet cover.

In addition, Gemalto will implement the on-premises portion of the solution, including appropriate hardware and software for capturing, digitizing, and storing the passport owner's personal data, photo, and signature.

Initial deliveries of the passports are expecting in early 2007, with the agreement extending through 2012 with an option for an additional three years thereafter. Given current passport issuance rates, the deal could mean as many as one million passports by the expiration of the contract.

"Gemalto is proud to have been selected by the Estonian authorities" said Jacques Seneca, President Europe at Gemalto. "This agreement is the continuity of our past collaboration on visas. With the implementation of our end-to-end solution, the authorities and citizens will benefit from the highest level of security and convenience, together with compliance with the global standard."

SafeNet says the K3 card, a component in its Luna Hardware Security Modules (HSMs), is the first cryptographic module certified for FIPS 201, making them the first HSMs to be certified Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12 (HSPD-12) compliant. HSPD-12 is an executive mandate requiring that all federal employees and contractors use a smart card as an identification badge for physical access and logical access to IT resources.

The company says: "By implementing a FIPS 201-certified HSM as part of the HSPD-12 mandate, federal agencies are able to maximise on their investment to generate, store and protect cryptographic key material securely in applications needing advanced Personal Identity Verification (PIV) requirements. In addition to providing a high level of security, the FIPS 201 certification provides assurance of interoperability between the HSM and other components of HSPD-12, such as smart cards, middleware, card credential management systems, biometrics and a physical access system. This interoperability allows agencies to maximise their HSPD-12 investment, as it affords not only compliance, but also helps protect more data."

taurus,

yes, i got the mkt cap wrong but only because ADVFN have it listed incorrectly.

as for 50p + next week i think it has a very good chance bearing in mind the key date of 27 Oct 06 and the CEO already saying he expected to announce more contracts in the coming weeks on 09 Oct 06.

i will be very surprised if we don't se more deals announced in the next 7 days or so.

i will try and improve my ramping technique over the coming week.

pork belly - with all respect, you're not a very good ramper. You get the market cap. wrong, more than once, and you don't read posts on here properly. I wish you all the best if you have bought IGP shares, but talk of 'breaking 50p' this or next week is just idle gossip that may or may not come about. The share price will do what it will do, but no thanks to you! Regards :0)

Large show-case section on ITSO on the 13th in one of the 'quality' papers. Apparently it will profile key players. As the ITSO standard is built on SMRT's technology one would expect that they might begin to hit some radars - not to the degree that IGP has this weekend - but some none-the-less. The only other niche play on the Government's interoperable transport and local government policy is INN via their low cost ITSO-compliant Jewel chip. The difference between INN and SMRT is that SMRT are already profitable and INN are horribly loss-making.

DYOR though. Patience (a dose of faith) needed on some of my plays.... ;0)

Intercede Group, which develops identity recognition software, put on 4p to 41½p on announcing an additional 200,000 orders for its MyID system from Gemalto, the Dutch digital security group. Gemalto is supplying an unnamed European customer in the public sector, taking the total number of MyId licences held by the client as part of its employee smart card programme to 500,000. Two weeks ago, RSA, a MyID licensee, won a large US federal contract.

CONGRATULATIONS to the informed long-termers here. IGP have well out-performed SMRT and I'm here to publicly eat my ID card :0)

(that said - all this publicity has to be good for the sector as a whole: SMRT now just half the the market cap of IGP with £3m profits pencilled in for 2008. I'm so far ahead of the curve its dangerous- IGE, IGP, OMG, MLR ..... They're all going for it! Perhaps 14th November will be SMRT's day?)

Very warm regards all.

Novell Ensures BT's Customers Will Have Secure Access to its Next Generation Network

Novell today announced a significant new contract with BT to manage the digital profiles and identities of millions of customers expected to use BT's Next Generation 21st Century Network (21CN). The Novell® directory and identity solution set will be used to build the Profile Capability of 21CN. The solution provides the 21CN infrastructure with the common identity information required to integrate voice, data, broadband, mobility, on-demand video and ICT services. As a result, BT will have the ability to quickly and seamlessly provision new services, reduce systems administration and improve customer satisfaction.

"The 21CN is the world's most radical next generation network transformation programme," said Mike Galvin, director of portfolio infrastructure, BT Group. "We are moving our business model from managing multiple networks to a single network delivering multiple services. We are already using Novell's identity management capabilities for our Corporate Meta Directory services – it's a proven solution that we knew could scale to the extremes required for a customer facing profile store."

For customers, Novell's directory and identity solution will serve as a foundation for secure authentication across 21CN for existing applications and services. In the future, customers will have the ability to access a broader range of services, such as video telephony, video on demand, WiFi access and corporate VPN access. The carrier-class solution set provided by Novell is based on a number of technologies, including Novell Identity Manager and Novell eDirectory™.

"BT's 21CN programme is set to put it at the forefront of innovation worldwide, releasing the full potential of next generation communications services for its customers in the UK and overseas," said Tom Francese, Novell executive vice president for worldwide sales and president, Novell EMEA. "Novell's identity management capabilities will give BT's consumers and business customers the ability to easily and reliably access a wide range of feature-rich and cost-effective communications services – ultimately improving the quality of people's personal and professional lives."

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has certified Novell's identity assurance solution for Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12 (HSPD-12) implementations. HSPD-12 is a government-wide standard that requires a new identification card process to enhance security, reduce identity fraud, and protect the personal privacy of those issued government identification. With this new GSA certification, agencies know they can deploy Novell's recently enhanced identity assurance solution with confidence that they are meeting HSPD-12 requirements.

Novell's identity assurance solution, originally available in July 2005, was recently enhanced through the addition of key identity management technologies that allow for easier enrollment, issuance, and maintenance of PIV cards, the core of HSPD-12 requirements. Novell's solution also provides seamless integration with single-sign on and access control policies to govern both physical and logical access to government facilities and resources, as well as the option to centrally monitor, in real time, PIV card activity.

Social Security Administration Issues First PIV Credential Ahead of HSPD-12 Deadline
Probaris Critical to Social Security HSPD-12 Success
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 23, 2006 -- On Wednesday, October 18, 2006, the Social Security Administration (SSA) issued an HSPD-12 credential to Jo Anne Barnhart, the Commissioner of Social Security in advance of the looming October 27th deadline. The agency plans to issue more of the credentials in the coming weeks at the SSA headquarters complex in Woodlawn, Maryland. The SSA has continued to execute its aggressive HSDP-12 implementation plan which calls for:

-- Deploying enrollment stations to over 1400 field offices and regional
centers; and,
-- Issuing HSPD-12 credentials to all employees and contractors within
the next two years.

As the October 27th deadline draws closer, Probaris products and professional services play a significant role in the agency's HSPD-12 achievements. The SSA HSPD-12 credential solution is based on Probaris' SP/PIV software product. Last month the agency ordered 100,000 end user licenses for Probaris SP/PIV, as it proceeds towards full scale solution implementation.
With Probaris SP/PIV in place, the SSA will securely issue credentials to employees and contractors at nearly half the cost of other solutions and shared services.

SP/PIV is short for Secure Process® for Personal Identity Verification

Government Agencies To Issue Smart ID Cards To Employees

October 23, 2006 9:04 a.m. EST

Jacob Cherian - All Headline News Staff Writer
Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Many government agencies are rushing to meet an October 27 deadline to issue smart ID cards to their employees.

The October 27 deadline was mandated by an order put in place by President Bush in 2004. It appears the "initial rollouts" may be only for access to buildings and not for IT systems.

The U.S. Social Security Administration officially turned "technically compliant" when it gave a new ID card to Commissioner Jo Anne Barnhart. The agency hopes to fulfill the target of issuing IDs to all its workers by the end of September 2008.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or EPA is another federal group that plans to turn the "personal identity verification" or PIV cards to "a small handful" of staff. Spokesman Dale Kemery said, making the IDs spread across the 18,000-strong work force will be a "fairly long rollout."

Matt Neuman, director of business development for Jacob and Sundstrom, a company that deals with systems integration, says numerous agencies are ready to comply with "the letter of the law, If not the spirit of the law" on distributing PIV cards. "But it at least shows that everybody is focused on it."

The need to issue PIV cards for verifying identification of all federal employees and contractors was put in place by Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12. The HSPD-12 mandate requires each federal agency to come up with a "common identification credential" to access government computers and facilities and is unfunded.
