'Inmarsat takes off despite US group Harbinger selling its 14% stake at a discount'


...Commenting on today's news Morten Singleton at Investec said:

We will wait for the dust to settle before re-assessing our recommendation, but this was the major potential drag on the shares in the near term and should offer a clear run thereafter.

It should be noted that our discounted cash flow-based target price [of 724p] includes no value for the...Lightsquared phase 2 deal (which would be worth around 150p a share if it goes through). It could be several years, however, before it becomes clear whether Lightsquared's 4G network is viable in the US and this option would be taken up.

Looks the opposite affect here, pleased for all holders as I got mightily shafted last time they had to depart abruptly!

If they were going to be in play then that would happened on their first sell,
surely? Still, the 670p price was better than 634p

I think Harbinger are in a spot of bother! They had to dump their entire holding in one of my other interests recently, unfortunately they owned around 20% of the company and it resulted in a decline in the share price of around 20-25%!

HARBINGER FUNDS TO SELL REMAINDER OF HOLDINGS IN INMARSAT PLC

Harbinger Capital Partners Special Situations Fund, L.P. and Harbinger Capital Partners Master Fund I, Ltd. (together, the "Harbinger Funds"), both affiliated investment funds of Harbinger Capital Partners LLC hereby announce that they intend to sell, in aggregate, 64,277,249 ordinary shares in Inmarsat plc ("Inmarsat"), constituting approximately 14 per cent of the issued share capital of Inmarsat and representing the remainder of the Inmarsat shares held by the Harbinger Funds (the "Transaction").

Credit Suisse and Ubs Investment Bank have been appointed as Joint Bookrunners with respect to the Transaction and have also consented to the waiver of certain lock-up arrangements which were in place following the sale of 65,000,000 Inmarsat shares by the Harbinger Funds on 5 October 2010.

Bookbuilding in relation to the Transaction will commence immediately. It is expected that the books will close on or before close of business on 8 February 2011. Pricing and allocations are expected to be announced as soon as practicable following the closing of the books.

Dipped my toe in here about 10 days ago. Intersting 2 way pull on the chart presumably driven by the fear that a big institution might be looking to unload on one side balanced against excellent fundamentals on the other. Think that the latter may hold sway once we get into the New Year and good figures start to pull more heavily on the share price

Inmarsat led a short list of Footsie fallers, slipping 0.9 per cent to 644½p. The satellite operator has been hit by concerns that Harbinger Capital could sell some of its 14 per cent stake. Harbinger boss Phil Falcone has recently denied rumours that the fund was facing a cash squeeze.
