27/6/2011 23:49 | PHILO, a bit of detail from Guardian market report.... "Inmarsat lost 10p to 542.5p after Citigroup cut its target price for the satellite company from 820p to 600p, blaming an uncertain outlook for its customers in the maritime sector and weakening demand from government agencies. Analyst Tania Valiente said: "We think there is still long-term value in the shares, but poor prospects for earnings momentum going into the second half of 2011 are likely to be a headwind for the stock." | philanderer

20/6/2011 11:03 | ... Satellite operator Inmarsat is up 27p to 591.5p following reports that a 20 year contract had been signed between its US partner LightSquared and Sprint for a rollout of 4G networks in the country. Investec analyst Morten Singleton said: This would seriously improve the viability of the nascent wholesale 4G operator and make Lightsquared's extension of the phase 2 deal for Inmarsat spectrum much more likely. That contract extension is perhaps worth around 150p per Inmarsat share. We think Inmarsat is increasingly looking oversold and a rebound looks possible today off the Sprint story. | philanderer
20/6/2011 10:21 | FT 20/6/11 Inmarsat was the standout gainer, up 4.5 per cent at 590p, the biggest rise by a significant margin. It came after market speculation that the satellite phone service provider's US partner LightSquared unit had reached agreement with American peer Sprint to introduce the first fourth generation mobile network. | 56richard

18/6/2011 18:49 | eipgam - Can't argue with you ont he 'barriers to entry' thing but why has the share price taken a nose dive these last few days???? Any thoughts?????? | losos
16/6/2011 17:15 | an opinion I love companies that are blessed with wide 'moats' that keep rival firms at bay... and in my book, Inmarsat (LSE: ISAT) certainly has some of the highest 'barriers to entry' within the FTSE. This company operates a global broadband network through its own fleet of satellites... and the time, money and effort required for anybody to develop and launch a competing service does not bear thinking about. Inmarsat's pre-eminent position ensures its kit is used extensively by shipping groups, oil majors, media firms and armed forces. Sure, Inmarsat faces competition from the likes of Iridium and Globalstar, but these tend to offer lower-speed services... and both firms have gone bankrupt in the past. I must admit Inmarsat's accounts are a nightmare to evaluate, but I feel the immense strength of the business ought to justify some further research. | eipgam
13/5/2011 11:50 | Seems to have recovered from the 'ex-div' drop much faster than I expected, as to the Ex-Im Bank loan, well since it's a fixed rate loan for the 12.5 years I can't help wondering what rates will be like in 8 or 10 or 12 years time, a lot higher than now is my guess. | losos
12/5/2011 11:38 | 12 May 2011: Inmarsat plc (LSE: ISAT.L) today announces the signing of a 12.5-year direct financing agreement with the Export-Import Bank of the United States ("Ex-Im Bank") to fund the build of the Inmarsat-5 satellites and certain other related capital items. Under the agreement Inmarsat may borrow up to US$700 million and expects drawings to begin during the second quarter. The facility will have a total availability period of 4 years and then be repayable in equal instalments over a further 8.5 years. Drawings under the facility will incur interest at a fixed interest rate for the life of the loan. | verymaryhinge

11/5/2011 13:23 | philanderer - "with 820p target" well I would say 720p myself, still good from where we are today :-) | losos
11/5/2011 12:09 | HSBC this morning reiterating 'overweight' for ISAT with 820p target | philanderer
11/5/2011 09:12 | 15p down this morning (I thought it would be more) already recovering, maybe end the day where it finished yesterday. | losos
10/5/2011 12:04 | philianderer - rising nicely today, of course it will fall back tomorrow, but longer term I agree that deal with 'LightSquared' seems like a nice little earner for ISAT over the next five years. As someone said above we could see 650 in a matter of months (That would be nice!) | losos
10/5/2011 11:15 | Questor share tip: Inmarsat enjoys a winning spectrum "Inmarsat has long provided satellite communications for shipping and aircraft. Now it appears to have found a lucrative sideline in leasing spare radio spectrum." 10 May 2011 Inmarsat 619p +26p Questor says Hold article: | philanderer
10/5/2011 08:51 | Dipped my toe in this morning (for the divi) expect a drop tommorrow (Ex-Div) so may add again. They are still just below my long term trend graph and have an unblemished dividend payout record, what more could one want? | losos |
