IKA Capital Markets Day.

Short 4.5mins overview, followed by the full presentations by Graeme Purdy, CEO and analysts from Berenberg and Liberum.

hxxps://www.piworld.co.uk/2019/12/13/ilika-ika-capital-markets-day-december-2019-solid-state-battery-technology/

The CMD was held to enable investors to meet management and see the newly opened facilities in Hampshire. The roadmap for the future was outlined, where solid state batteries are important to EV development, but also for other early adopters, such as consumer electronics and domestic appliances. Guest speakers were Asad Farid, Analyst, Berenberg, on battery technology and the costs. And, Adam Collins, Analyst Liberum, about the EV road map.

Hornblower,

I’m not sure we’re on the same page,

I’m just talking about the comparison of the carbon footprint generated from cradle to grave of each tech (ice and EV)inc generating electricity, (inc kg of carbon in producing the generating plant), transportation etc etc etc,

I just feel we are at best treading water....

200,000 cars per day pass each way on the nearby motorway at an average speed of 65 mph. It's easy to see how much energy we use up whether it comes from fossil fuels or renewables. Does it matter how much it costs if it's not killing the planet?

It’s really hard to get a definite answer, I think too many vested interests and I don’t just mean from the oil lobby.

Unfortunately the green lobby has become just as bad, nit necessarily driven by money but from blind rabid swivel eyed fanatacism.

How hard could it be??

Take into account the total carbon cost of mining, fabrication and electricity production with current renewable and fossil fuel mix, inc the carbon cost of manufacturing the generating plant too! Inc loss of energy in electricity transmition.

Compare that to doing the same with an ice car and oil production transportation etc.

I bet if it were calculated, the rational argument would be to drive around in a small efficient diesel!!

Any takers?

Which? The battery taking more energy to produce than it discharged over its life?

Hey, I’m no expert and would love to be proven wrong.

Just googled it,

That story was made up by the oil industry trying to slow down EV adoption. Every day they stall it is worth £3Billion to them. It's a bit like listening to a conversation about typewriters. E.g.Those golf ball typewriters will never catch on and word processors are pure fantasy.

Someone at the PR day made the point that even hybrid cars such as the Toyota Prius uses a lead acid battery to start the IC engine as that is still the cheapest option for the power needed.

But hey ho,

If we can make a few pounds on our investment, at least we can offset it against the absolute rogering we are about to get from our government.

Lol,

Yes, let’s hope they are!!

Thanks Hornblower.

I was hoping they weren’t lithium but something cheaper and more abundant and I guess greener.
