Loss is inevitable.
Virtually no income except grants.

Non. I don't think that's what the company is saying at all.

In their carefully worded rns they have, as usual, said almost nothing. Zero tech spec data.

Energy density means how much energy you can get in a particular space.
There are two ways of increasing energy density, by packing more energy into the same space or by packing the same amount of energy into a smaller space.
Most of their announcement is regarding the latter.
They have a fundamental problem with the former which photolithography by itself is not going to solve.

So that is an increase in energy density of 10 times to be followed by about 5 times more over about 3 years. That means 50 times in total giving a rechargeable solid state battery with at least as high an energy density as 'ordinary' batteries.

Thanks for the link, mdchand. Even as a long-term holder, I would recommend a listen, as GP provides a very clear and balanced review of the state of the business. I say "balanced", but am tempted to say downbeat - partly of course thanks to his usual Marvin-esque delivery style, but also as it is a sobering reminder of how far off most of the commercialisation opportunities probably remains.

(Also, kudos to him for not being derailed by the astonishingly air-headed interviewer.)

A slight media push by GP re upcoming interims. Feels like he is doing it because he has to and not because he wants to. However....to summarise, not exactly glass half empty but rather waiting for the waiter to serve you....IMO until commercialisation kicks in, its going to drift sideways.

Can’t disagree with any of these comments. Exactly how much patience is required? Terms such as “close” & “shortly”; used in the Nov ShareSoc presentation now have me thinking they were talking about a different company. They looked and sounded so upbeat, I’d like to know which one. There’ve been lots of “positive̶1; announcements but apparent zero impact on licencing. At what point does it all look silly or are we already there? Results out next month and baring a miracle, will be the usual page-turner. Not happy

They are University driven and are used to relying on grants for income.
Don't expect them to be commercial...or to invest in their own company...or to take reasonably low salaries until profitable...because they probably won't ever be.
I've given up on them...but then, you probably realised that.

Re drop of last week I think that was not unexpected. Ilika announced manufacturing partnership back in Nov and subsequently commercial launch in Q2, then....... nothing. In the meantime they announced increased power density by back thinning of the wafers - utterly standard procedure in semiconductor industry, so nothing radical there, but seemingly enough for the idiot markets to keep the price propped up. And now it's an announcement about using photolith instead of contact masking. Frankly I think it's unbelievable they were going into production without a proper photolith set-up. Who is this company trying to kid? I remain invested but beginning to wonder why. Management need to announce something soon that is financially meaningful and doesn't make them look like buffoons technically.

will be interesting to see if this resumes the 'horizontal' price of the last months or pushes higher ( or back down).

Just been looking at this. US competitors include Solid Power and Ionic Materials. Ionic has reported $65million dollar investments. Solid power has had $20 million funding rounds. Both have research contracts announced with large globally recognized brand names.
I wouldn't assume any kind of competitive advantage for Ilika without researching it in a lot of depth.

The directors seem quite well paid for a company that's not yet made any money 9 years after listing. The CEO gets a package costing almost £250k and he's also just had 1,127,777 zero cost options granted in January. If I calculate correctly, he needs a share price of 49p to collect 75% of this or 73.5p to get 100%. In addition to all the earlier options.

What is Britain really good at these days?

Not an article on IKA. The company is listed along with others which the author believes adhere to the title.
