I think that IKA might surprise the market and unveil a large scale solid state battery sooner than we think!

Did you notice that he went from solid state Li-ion batteries having 2.5 times the storage density of a standard Li-ion battery to the conclusion that they will be able to power cars to 600 miles on a single charge.
This is not a logical progression.
There are none so blind...

No doubt it will happen eventually but not for several years.

Also, none of the tech belongs to IKA!

Their is every chance IKA will only get a small part of a massive market and that they will remain niche.

But that’s still huge for such a tiny company.

Horn blower,

Solid state will me massive!!!!!!

How can you be so short sighted??

Found this on Solid state, they mention a few companies including IKA!!

Interestingly, they also mention Toyota separately, and say that they are rumoured to be making a massive announcement on solid state in 2020.

Are they not working with Ilika?!?!?!?

That's true, and I would be enthusiastic too if the company had shown any ability to go out and get sales. In the past they have shown no such ability. They are academics and accountants and their strengths are mainly applied to filling out grant applications.

Apart from that, their tech is never going to be scalable. Solid state is inherently small scale.

Wind turbine blade sensors is just one application.

gary - that's nice, but the numbers must be minuscule. How many turbines per year? How many blades? How many sensors per blade? What price per battery? What margin?

Multiply them all out, and the total would make a nice Christmas stocking filler, but nothing like enough to sustain a business. They need to be selling batteries of that size in the millions per annum to make an impact on the bottom line.

In November 2017, Ilika announced a partnership to deploy Stereax powered devices for the condition monitoring of wind turbines with Titan Wind Energy, the largest manufacturer of wind turbines in China and the 4th largest globally. Beta prototype devices are nearing readiness for trial deployment.Hopefully we will be getting a rns that Beta prototype devices have been deployed, that will be 2 years of hard work by the Ilika team, that when deployed is a game changer as Titan wind Energy are massive.

As I said above, if they have a prototype by 2025 I’d be over the moon!!

Have you any idea how massive that would be?

In the meantime, they have a market ready product which has many applications.

They are pretty much exactly where they were three years ago...That's why!

Why?

Because they haven’t in the space of three years developed a consumer focused cheap solid state lithium ion battery suitable for mobile phones laptops and cars?

Bloody hell, if only it was that simple!!!!!!

"They obviously believe they have good tech."
That is a charitable way of understanding the situation.
However, that does not mean they are not deluding themselves, as they seem to have been for the past three years (along with shareholders, backers, bankers, government quangos etc).
