02/5/2006 08:15 | mexico results quite decent... RNS Number:2553C HSBC Holdings PLC 02 May 2006 GRUPO FINANCIERO HSBC, S.A. DE C.V. 2006 FIRST QUARTER FINANCIAL RESULTS - HIGHLIGHTS * Net income for the quarter ended 31 March 2006 was MXN 1,430 million, an increase of 19.9 per cent over the same period in 2005 * The cost:income ratio was 61.7 per cent for the three months ended 31 March 2006, improving from the 65.1 per cent achieved in the same period in 2005 * Total assets were MXN 287.9 billion at 31 March 2006, compared with MXN 239.4 billion at 31 March 2005 Commentary by Sandy Flockhart, CEO & Group General Manager "HSBC is off to a good start in Mexico in 2006, with strong growth across our key business and product areas. "Alongside growing our business we are also continuing to deepen our roots in Mexico and, recently, we inaugurated our new corporate headquarters, Torre HSBC, which is located on Paseo de la Reforma, one of Mexico City's most important avenues. The building is the first environmentally friendly construction of its type in Latin America and HSBC expects to receive a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. I am also pleased to announce that we remain committed to Corporate and Social Responsibility (CSR), and in 2006 we were recognised as a 'Socially Responsible Company" by the Mexican Center for Philanthropy. "In March, HSBC reached an agreement to acquire a 19.99 per cent stake in Financiera Independencia S.A. de C.V., a highly successful niche player in the Mexican consumer loans market. "HSBC continues to work towards being the leading financial services institution in Mexico in the eyes of our customers. We are driving product innovation and service standards. Based on the combination of the knowledge, network and brand of the HSBC Group along with the experience and capabilities of our Mexican colleagues, we have established a strong foundation in Mexico and are poised for continued growth through the remainder of 2006." | sea and sky

01/5/2006 17:25 | Is just me who expects 1050-1150p within 2 mths? | alanrex
28/4/2006 16:47 | On Tuesday I placed a buy order at 950p, which got filled. I was quite convinced that the Gann and fib lines at about that level would hold, but I placed anpther order at 940p just in case. Today we visited 940.5p so I wasn't far off buying some more. We have traded all day between the 1x4 and 1x8 Gann lines and (in spite of todays modest rise) I am now becoming concerned that having done so we are more likely to see the lower line before seeing any bounce. | kenbachelor
28/4/2006 08:29 | If on Tuesday they announce more than 16 cents for the quarterly dividend we ought to see a rise. | miata

28/4/2006 08:16 | The feeling is rising interest rates in the US, now a large part of HSBC's business, will lead to significant bad debt charges. | miata
28/4/2006 08:13 | thanks miata - noted the miners took a hit yesterday re china - i'm looking to re-enter BLT but it needs to settle first. i don't fully see why HSBC appears to be underperforming other banking - of course the usual rumours on BARC and LLOY persist but even so... | sea and sky
28/4/2006 08:07 | Chinese interest rate rise will have a very small negative effect, by reducing activity in China, reducing Chinese trade with America and generally keeping world interest rates a little higher. Increased borrowing costs tend to lead to more defaults and higher bad debt charges. But all marginal. AGM 26 May, next trading update 30 May, interim results 31 July. | miata
28/4/2006 07:29 | how does the rate rise affect HSBC do you reckon Miata? Looks like it has to test the 200 day first though... are Q1 due soon btw? | sea and sky
27/4/2006 11:00 | China has raised its one-year benchmark lending rate to 5.85% from 5.58%, the first rise since October 2004. | miata

26/4/2006 07:10 | Not 'back in' Gateside, I've simply added. Still looking for 995p for the original thread's holding, but might sell yesterday's purchase at 978.5p. We will have to see how things go, bearing in mind that HSBC pay a divi every quarter. | kenbachelor
25/4/2006 20:28 | Ken... Good to know your back in... what's your target this time? All the banks were up again today... apart from the two that I have shares in!!! | gateside
25/4/2006 09:21 | It's a good job I didn't stick with my 955p target. I've got another target set at 940p and it looks as if I might even buy some more by the end of the day. | kenbachelor
25/4/2006 08:21 | Just got them at 949.89p, so they can go up now. | kenbachelor |
