In spite of HSBC being the only bank down this morning, the Gann support line (974p tonight) seems to be holding well at the moment.

Verynervy - Sharestar asked when the results are due and in the previous post I had said 'Now it's just a case of wait and see what happens at 10.15 next Monday'.

Hi all - Just logged on after a few days in Egypt and it looks as if things have gone to plan while I've been away. My target is 3% (995p). I think I will just wait and see at the moment.

I'll update the Gann/Fib chart asap.

very possible indeed to reach 1080 only 110p away and not much more than 10% more.

In Hong Kong the HSI closed up 177 points reflecting the easing of concerns over further US interest rate increases and the increased tax relief for homeowners announced by the government yesterday.

Mr Tang's budget speech included the extension of tax relief for home loan interest from 7 years to 10 years (capped at $HK100,000 per annum).

CSFB reiterated its 'outperform' rating on HSBC this morning, noting that investors will focus increasingly on the company's relative capital strength and, combined with the fundamental outlook, advised buying the shares.

I feel that within the next 12 to 18 months it will regain the high of £10.80 that it made in 2001. I intend to hold until that price target is broken.

I play a medium term strategy where I hold shares for 4 months to 1 year. Will sell the share at a loss of 15% or look to sell it after a gain of 30%.

My partner has shares which she never sells. She only believes in holding for the long term. Her biggest share being HSBC. I am paying more attention to them for her. Hoping to talk her into selling or buying at the right times? How long should a long term player hold for? What is good stop losses or gain taking margins for this type of investor? I guess double mine or what do you think.

Help please!
