Hornby is 75% owned by a couple of investment funds controlled by Phoenix asset management;these funds also own loan notes in Hornby. The writer is an investor in one of the funds. The same fund also controls Stanley Gibbons. One other unconnected fund also owns most of the remaining shares.Phoenix have invested much money here but it is a bit of a illiquid share.

The wording by the company could have been better in my post above but clearly the wind is blowing in their favour and the market believes (+ 28%) the momentum could lead to some tasty numbers in future.

"We have seen more online sales than we predicted and at the half-year point we had exceeded the sales levels through this channel than we had achieved in the entire 2019-20 financial year,"

Is there online potential here? Do we have a split of the numbers because I can't find them. Juggling numerous things so maybe missed them. Can't see them in today or recent reports?

How big a chunk are they? If a company usually doesn't spell it out, then they're normally negligible.

IMO it`s valued on next years profits, plus the value of the IP rights and all the brands, which before long might make this worth 100m.

Still light at the end of the tunnel.

"We have observed hitherto successful and profitable companies worldwide crumbling under the pressure, with losses, closures and tumbling share values.

Yet we have not only weathered this shattering storm, our sales have increased by 33% in the first half of 2020 (compared to prior year), moving Hornby back into profitability."

Is it me or are they almost gloating?

YESSS! Look at us, look how great we are, look how terrible the others are. Aren't we just amazing? I mean all those other companies crumbling under a complete left field uncontrollable event, where the shift in dynamics aren't as favourable to the likes of a Hornby.

How well were you doing before the pandemic? Let's have a look at that share price chart shall we.....

What a great result for the team at Hornby.

Lockdowns have provided a boost to sales it seems, and it should continue with Christmas sales coming in early.

Building models and railways being something the dads can do with their children and entertain themselves at the same time.

Cash should increase after the Christmas sales.

Top marks to the CEO.

As long as the incomes hold up the spend will continue , they are producing a quality product again in detail terms , durability is another matter , with the fine detail comes great delicacy . I would suggest a majority of the sales are not across the counter now , if there is cash in the pocket the spend is happening Covid has been a bonus for Hornby .

Well HOLTS you do seem to have been correct with your comments back in June.

However, how well things will hold up this Christmas if even the lightest of lockdowns further impact all the small town toy dealers etc. ?

Still it`s still in the running against all the odds.

Unfortunately the previous management made such a horlicks of running it for four or five years , the money they wasted or commited the company too is still taking its toll .

However they do have a quality supplier again , the Covid has surprisingly been a benefit in terms of railway sales and the railway modeller is still prepared to spend big money on items , there are many high value products that they will not accept more orders for .

I think even L.D. cannot get this back on track, I regret to say but COVID-19 or not 2019/2020 was the last chance salon in my book, and look how much stock they have landed themselves with. They talk about profits by the end of the year on the on-line businesses end, but that is only wishful thinking imo. The rest of the business will continue to drain cash by the look of the figures provided. So much of the cash raised in March has already vanished.

Time for PI`s to give this one a very wide berth, and I am thankful to LD that I got out with a small profit as while ago.

Why oh why oh why do people keep pumping cash into this dog of a company. It must have burnt through £60m in the last few years yet even in good times will probably only be worth £20m or so.

A very special tourist attraction 2t.

With people now going back to work there will be less time available build tracks and models but a good number might have got hooked by the experience.

and lets also hope it keeps on the track with the right wheels in place:

and does not end up with a flat spot like this train:

TicTac. Thanks for your input, hope you had fun with the model.

My Grandson (11 year old) has over the past weeks purchased several Airfix models and made a few - he is very happy with them, as is his dad who also enjoyed helping as he had not done any for over 30 years.

I expect they could do a bit more with social media and try to get the nation building while they are locked down, the shares would start to chug along.😎310;✈✈🛩🛩

My first Airfix model in 40 years.

So what did I get for gbp20?

It's ok - the box though for example is far too thin, but the box art and presentation are first class. There's almost no cost fixing that. The instructions are doubly folded and too flimsy - again almost no cost to fix.

The molding seems to be really good - so too the decals. Much improved from when I was a child.

This company should be very well placed to make shareholders a lot of money. I've now got 30k shares. Small things and they're flying, and how appropriate that is for a company that makes small things which look like flying.

Interesting!

thats a good point that did cross my mind , not sure how close you live to the hornby site in thanet but i live very close and i know people that work there , basically they have shut the site down for a few weeks because of the virus and staff are now working from home ,
the great unknown is has the china lockdown affected production as all there stock /toys /come from china ,

bottom line is hornby will never go bust as phoenix that own hornby are in to deep and will always bail hornby out - i estimate the share price has to reach 60 -70 pence for phoenix to even break even on there investment with hornby ,only then will they even consider bailing out and leaving hornby hung out to dry as it were but i suspect greed will kick in and phoenix would keep hornby as long as possible if the S/P is rising -

as for our investment which to be blunt is all we really care about - it was starting to perk up before the virus thing which has hit the share price , or turning things around now at 30p could be an opportunity to buy when the S/P picks up again after this bit of nonesence blows over in a few months time ----

With people in lock-down, are more people playing with HRN stuff and buying modeling kits? Hence the increasing share price I guess so.
