I hate blue it is my least favourite colour!Any how i have just received an email from my very good son in law and he doth inform one that HFD were fined 19 thousand pounds for poor service in May 2013?? It was in fact the Auto Repair side of this that had indeed let the old side down.3k fine & 16k costs I'm informed.Warwickshire County Council Trading Standards apparently took the aforesaid prosecution against Halfords Group PLC.As far as the information I have at hand I can concur that an "undercover sting" operation had occurred across the county against not only Halfords but also other garages that had already received numerous complaints, apparently Halfords was one of the said accused but not guilty until the terminal investigation. So what happened....?Well, a so called Trading Standards Expert from Warickshiresfinest did indeed place a number of such fine faults as only a trading standards expert needs to do.They were, as far as I have been informed, such very complex and difficult to find faults such as.....:- low fluid levels?- reduced tyre pressures?- misaligned washer jets?- working bulbs replaced by dud ones?- marked ( secretly ) vehicle parts such as wheels to see if they were indeed removed for example and simple pollen filters checked? The sting vehicle was indeed placed into a normal daily cycle of Halfords caring & experienced mechanics/ technicians to undergo a full service at only 197 pounds? ( bargain! )As I have only just received this email I must research into this further if it is to be true!? Especially when the evidence provided to the court that, (QUOTE) "in all seven faults were missed on that aforesaid vehicle".It would be very unfair of oneself to state that one services ones Bentley at halfords, not only would it dismember my warranty agreement one would also find much difficulty in navigating Surrey country lanes with no lights. That aside and also in my own very honest opinion, very honest! I can only wonder why the CEO of halfords auto centres vanished with so much of an RNS.!? Where is the replacement? Why are Halfords Auto Centres losing money?Better to lose money then haemorrhage profits in the future?Have we fixed this?Who is the new CEO of AUTO CENTRES?Have you ever thought of putting in business managers with integrity, honesty and true grit rather then the current dowdy grease monkies that operate these hugely potential cash generative customer service touch points of future wealth generation?I do not have the answer, it's not my business. However if I was an investor in my honest opinion I would wish that certain elements to the current deficiencies are addressed and addressed most swiftly and aggressively if need be.Why not get your best store managers to manage the grease monkeys....... You may well surprise yourself yet.It is and will always be about the consumer.

Down on a broker downgrade - they are the days to buy imo - broker notes get forgotten in days - especially when everyone is buying on the next broker upgrade :-)

Halfway through the year the fund also bought a stake in Halfords, which has rebounded by about 60 per cent in value.

The turnaround has reduced the yield, so the fund is reviewing whether to sell out and find another value investment, but believes the business is still a good one.

Stapley says: "Halfords had been suffering from poor like-for-like sales growth. But it's improved its range of products and driving more service revenues and taking advantage of the cycling craze post-Olympics."

The UK Higher Income fund is third quartile of the IMA UK Equity Income sector in the year to 25 November, and the past three years.

I think we may have seen the best of Halfords for a while. Sold my holding. Am expecting the price to pull back to around £4.40 or lower since there'll be declining interest and news flow is not massive for HFD. Since I'm no longer long, have opened a small short. Also all these cycling deaths are a bit of downer. Am imagining that traders are heavily London centric so will affect their view of cycling in general. Again, not good for HFD.

5 killed in 9 days, now. All by lorries and buses. The total for the year so far looks to be around 19 or 20, slightly ahead of an average year's 17 - but cycling numbers have increased significantly in the last few years.
