10/7/2024 14:32 | New Jersey did not follow suit. they understand better than most the realities. its a huge political game and i suspect that both dk and flutter will react differently moving forward. they did not react quickly enough on the political front in illinois. | ![]() solarman2013
10/7/2024 13:32 | I respectfully would argue it is far, far too early to argue that other states won’t follow suit. It has already happened in Ohio and Illinois and it could take at least a couple more years with no other state following suit before the market prices it out again. | ![]() rkeck
10/7/2024 09:24 | Illinois has been a one off . Holds are good in q2, yet growth has been spectacular | ![]() solarman2013
10/7/2024 05:02 | I wish I could agree solarman but I don’t believe that will happen. The contagion risk post Illinoisgate (my term) hangs over the sector (particularly DK and Flutter) and won’t allow the shares prices to accelerate too quickly (for now at least). The Q2 hold numbers in US are encouraging (no more than that) but a significant tax rise at one of the major states would more than offset them. I sincerely hope your continued optimism is spot on and I’m being too negative. | ![]() rkeck

09/7/2024 05:48 | Thanks for the breakdown of NY figures. It grinds my gears when I read the Sportsbook online articles in US which nearly always compare the data with the previous week or month and not the YoY. I realise latter isn’t perfect with different sports events and timing issues but it is surely far more relevant. | ![]() rkeck
08/7/2024 21:28 | NY handle up 27% and revenue 31% in Q2 YoY. In Q1 those numbers were ~15% YoY. I think we will see a huge increase in organic growth for this quarter. In Q1 sports betting revenue grew 32% for the entire market. | ![]() lappuliisa

08/7/2024 19:11 | The appointment of Walt Disney's former finance chief Christine McCarthy to its board of directors... might lead credence to the ESPN rumors- Given that Disney owns 80% and operational control of ESPN. The working connections that Christine McCarthy has may help to pave a smooth road to future deals. One added benefit is that it's easier to streamline exisiting products if you already have a working relationship with someone at the company. Take this with a grain of salt though. Purely conjecture... | ![]() vraetorian

06/7/2024 20:38 | I looked at Boyd's annual report today and there's no way they will sell or terminate their strategic FanDuel partnership. They get revenue share from online betting and they offer retail Fanduel sportsbook in their casinos. If you google "fanduel retail" you will see the kiosks. FanDuel partnership is one of their fastest growing revenue streams and also the best partner to have from the sportsbooks. Boyd looks like a good company to add. P/E 10, quarterly dividend and share buyback program ongoing. Good upside. | ![]() lappuliisa

06/7/2024 15:41 | Outside my pay grade to have an opinion on potential ESPN deal but interesting that the market (seemingly anyway) gave Flutter a small kick when the rumour leaked. | ![]() rkeck
06/7/2024 10:11 | I have mixed feelings of Flutter running 2 sportsbooks (again). Especially if this one goes 50/50 or close to that ratio. What would the ownership % have to be to get full access to Flutter edge? ESPN access would be great, but it still faces the challenge of advertising 2 sportsbooks. They can't just integrate ESPN bet into Fanduel. People want a different brand. Financially it makes sense to split the costs, but it will inevitably delay Flutters path to US profitability. It's been 1 year since FoxBet was closed. If this deal goes through, I would love to see Flutter as the majority owner, but I'm not thrilled about it. It also depends how good the ESPN Bet app & infrastructure are. If they are good enough, then they would just integrate Flutters sportsbetting odds & risk management into the product. From competition standpoint it's an aggressive move, but lots of integration needs to be done. I guess my only issue then is running 2 tech stacks and promoting 2 separate brands. FanDuel gets great scaling benefits from being #1. | ![]() lappuliisa
06/7/2024 10:06 | The basics of the deal from NYtimes article: ESPN Enters Sports Gambling in $2 Billion Deal With Casino Company ESPN on Tuesday announced a 10-year deal with Penn Entertainment, a casino company, to create an online sports betting brand called ESPN Bet Penn will operate the online sports book and pay ESPN $1.5 billion in cash for the use of ESPN’s name, marketing, “access to ESPN talent” and other promotional tools, Penn said in a news release. Penn will also give ESPN options to buy $500 million in Penn stock, the news release said. | ![]() lappuliisa
06/7/2024 06:09 | Whitehouse - I wouldn’t be so sure that the Flutter/ESPN rumour is false based purely on the market reaction yesterday. I would agree more unlikely than likely perhaps but I believe the rumour is true that Flutter are exploring this. | ![]() rkeck
