15/11/2002 00:54 | Its all part of the governments plan to crush(quite rightly)the FBU and to sort out the fire service for once and for all;Gilchrist and his lot consider themselves indespensible...they actually think that they will get(guffaw,guffaw)40 | jaxaxe
15/11/2002 00:49 | 20% Where did that come from? | boonyed
14/11/2002 23:16 | 15% over 3 years + jaxaxe get's to horsewhip Gilchirst:-). There that's the strike settled. | bomfin
14/11/2002 16:41 | The overtime pay rates are for casual overtime. There is in fact an overtime ban, which I believe, was introduced following the last dispute. The casual overtime is for instances where attendance at an incident is required prior to the normal end of shift but then carries on over that time. Crews will receive the overtime allowance whilst waiting to be relieved by the oncoming watch. As for the 20% wage increase over 3 years, it was in the Sun, and only the Sun, it has not been reported anywhere else. | boonyed
14/11/2002 13:54 | ..Has anyone been to the fire brigade union web site and seen the pay scale...and the overtime rates. No wonder theres no shortage of fire recruits...have a look! | jaxaxe
14/11/2002 13:16 | That would put an end to the strike using there fire trucks. These army lads no probs when using them and there equipment. The end is ni. lol | terry91
14/11/2002 13:14 | Surely the new labour right hand (Blair) doesn't know's what the ex-union ex-militant left hand (Prescott) is doing? A 20% pay rise would put the fireshirkers on £26,400 basic with a final pension salary scheme to boot (worth at least £300,000 of anyones money). Whats the point of working your guts out in the private sector! | brainclamp
14/11/2002 13:06 | no mention of 20% on the news, if 8 day strike goes ahead troops to be called in to use the fire engines, no more green goddesses | robbing hood
14/11/2002 13:02 | From the Sun Today: Deputy PM John Prescott made clear up to 20 per cent over three years was up for grabs. And he confirmed: "There is room for more negotiation to get more money." Fire minister Nick Raynsford backed him up, saying there was "real scope for real rewards" if firefighters modernised. | brainclamp
14/11/2002 13:00 | In North Yorkshire the special RAF command and control centre at Newby Wiske, near Northallerton had a very quiet night. They deployed a Green Goddess just twice - one to Sherburn in Elmet for what turned out to be a hoax call, and later to a litter bin on fire in the Layerthorpe area of York - but that had burnt itself out before the Green Goddess arrived Just how many Firepersons would normally have been covering this area in normal times..tough work isn't it? | maxheadroom
14/11/2002 12:55 | Bradwell, I was in GMC FS ,for 9 yrs on a busy central wholetime station. I have seen the culture of inefficiecy first hand. The "Why should I do that attitude" and general malaise got me down after being a Royal Marine. I resigned out of frustration. | techno1
14/11/2002 12:50 | And you do ? | gypsy king
14/11/2002 12:44 | Goodcall, I can see why you are called that. My post is a reply to 678. | techno1

14/11/2002 12:35 | bull, the public will support the firemen just you wait and see, and no matter how mutch you and the daily mail go on about it, they will recieve public support!!! | bradwell
14/11/2002 12:30 | Public support is now down to 38%, and only one day into industrial action. Gilchrist better know what he's doing, else all you little red engine drivers are in for a hard winter, lol. | i rely on balls
14/11/2002 12:26 | Wrong, you will be sitting around for a large percentage of the day, and lying around for nights. | techno1 |
