She is actually an Area Manager and seems to be strong on promoting the shop openings, probably the best marketing I’ve seen them do.

They will bounce back once the TU is announced so no need to worry, just perhaps general market malaise at the moment towards anything on a frothy multiple.

Be interesting to find out who is disposing; this has been pretty steady now for the past 10-14 days.

I wondered whether they might have timed the upgrade of the website to be done just in advance of the TS.

Should hear soon enough.

Wonderful to see the website updated and what an excellent design.

Love the fact every page tells you where your nearest store is located. They need to get the opening times & a nice photo attached to the Pocklington store location.

Not new but clear confidence in the concept / themselves re this on the Investor Information page on the new website:

•A unique and powerful value retail concept with a clear competitive advantage.

•Concept has UK scalability and potential to be a national brand.

•A proven concept where all stores are profitable.

•New stores are profitable from day one and reach sales / profit maturity in 2nd year.

•Cash generative business, working capital benefits and short payback on investment.

•No direct or comparable competition – effectively operating in our own market.

•Ambitious and realistic growth strategy – which is progressing well.

•Leadership team with a proven track record in the “quality-value” sector.

Are you moving North, Shanklin!?

I thought southerners only liked Waitrose essential organic grass fed Aberdeen Angus filet steak.

I'm not sure Crawshaws stock that! :-)

Aah well, 104.3 miles to my nearest Crawshaws :-)

Hopefully that number will come down over the next few years.

We have a shop in the Bramley shopping centre where they are currently redeveloping the car parking facilities, but having seen what’s going on I do hope we are being compensated for the loss of trade.

I think the average cost to open a new store is now just shy of £250k but do consider that the figure used to be closer to £500k which was the cost for Derby I believe when they stopped the expansion plans in 2009.

The stores are now generally larger to allow for the new format and design so halving the cost is very impressive. It is also far more cost effective having a teams sourcing potential stores, project managing fit outs and all the associated follow up of hiring, training & marketing ready for each opening. It should be almost one every two week here on in.

Is that £250k correct? My understanding is that they have been managing down the fit out cost.

Cheers, Martin

Sounds slightly better than waking up and seeing Reg up the road struggling to put his bins out.

Also noted that reference to NATIONAL playful; NATIONAL butchers chain Crawshaw’s. Sound's good!

The warning may seem unnecessary to most folk.....but when you see lions in your backyard on a fairly regular basis.... a dangerous element of familiarity can creep in and coupled with mob instinct of humans can lead to some unusual situations !

Been there.....though not with lions but with leopards, panthers, elephants and bisons for many years :)

Very interesting range of behaviours from my six Labradors who behaved in different ways depending on which animal/animals turned up on
my front lawn.

And yes - feeding the labs kept the local butcher very happy !

O/T but just in case anyone was thinking of flying out to Nairobi to feed the lions that are on the loose over there:

"Lions are dangerous wild animals. Don't confront them when you encounter them," Paul Udoto, spokesman for the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) tweeted.
