02/9/2006 21:45 | Woracle - you seem to know a bit about freight rates, why is they have varied so much? (i.e., what is the reason for the increase - is it seasonal?) Info - would be appreciated since I am not that familiar with this market. Thanks in advance. 900 looks an excellent entry point assuming we get anywhere near that... (it will need to break through 950 which is clearly showing reasonable short-term support) will be looking for any indication of direction change. Year chart looks interesting, cyclical movement in a reasonably straightforward trading range of between 850-950. A traders dream!! | jezboy1
31/8/2006 10:27 | Philo124, the Independant says buy, the market says sell, i see it's down another 2.6% today and i never argue with the market, the results were disappointing in my view, lower profits, sales and will set the near term outlook so i'm happy to move on with this one. Woracle, a good point so good luck to the holders. | utsushi
31/8/2006 10:06 | Good write up in today's Independant Rates stock as a buy. Philo | philo124

30/8/2006 23:27 | Santori, who says these last 6 months are good times ? It was an awful 1st 6 months for freight rates. The BDI ranged from 2000 to 2800 which is very low compared to last 3 years. Since end of June, its risen to 3700.. so expect dry bulk to improve massively as they said. Inspite of all this, they beat forecasts since their earnings are more spread over their range of services. Results were actually better than expected..Market consensus year end estimates were 63.5. We are at 37.5 already. So expect this figure to be revised up as the 2nd half will be better... The chart is still intact and the bounceback today suggests theres a lot of support at around 950. I sold first thing at 1042 and bought all back at 968 knowing the good times are just starting to return if the BDI trend is anything to go by... | woracle
30/8/2006 23:19 | Results don't look bad to me. Lots of positive stuff going forward. Clarksons always take a bashing after results. I'll hold, as I think they'll move forward rapidly over the next 6-12 months. £8 valuation - each to their own - I'm looking for £14 inside 12 months ! | ttjohnson
30/8/2006 10:20 | sold mine first thing, load o rubbish that first hailf. £8 is all they're worth imo. | bigbobjoylove
30/8/2006 09:56 | If CKN can't increase profits during the good times...not an expected result so a good time to exit. | utsushi

17/8/2006 04:27 | wilmot, seeing as you asked so many times!: basically says that Clarksons has benefited from BP's woes, 'cause their Alaskan problem means BP requiremnt have increased, causing a rise in shipping rates. finishes by saying: The Baltic Freight Dirty Tanker index, the benchmark for gauging the cost of hiring ships to transport crude, rose more than 10 per cent last week. Other measures, such as rates for very large crude carriers sailing between the Middle East and the United States, jumped by an eye-watering 44 per cent last week. All of which is viewed as positive for Clarkson, whose profits typically have tracked movements in shipping rates. | angora7
