It's difficult to see with all the noise and obstructive silence but Trump has been very successful. Interestingly he has also realised things which e.g. people like Bernie Sanders have fought for all their lives (On trade they are curiously very close)

Example: in the new agreement with Mexico and Canada, to avoid import tariffs, 40 percent of new cars needs to be made by workers earning at least $16 an hour, and that 75 percent of their value be manufactured in North America.

This is a huge step forward in protecting domestic Labour.

The big issue with tech and other industries that have an advantage through their research and development is that the to do business the Chinese Govt require you to have local partner.

That local partner has access to you IP they then copy it ( allegedly).

This is a scandal that has been brewing for a long time and the US presidents prior to Trump, decided not to confront it, he has.

Casual47:

I have read about the Chinese hacking of Amazon,Apple etc.

I think that Trump is enjoying the fight for now.

I guess the mid term elections will be revealing.

My money is on the Chinese to win.:-)

Another example of Trump's success:

A lot of people thought the renegotiated NAFTA was just a rebranding but actually it is a major change. Among other things it effectively contains a "poison pill" which will prohibit Mexico and Canada from doing a trade deal with China.

The same approach seems to be happening for Japan and EU:

Cinque, based on reading the viewpoints of different people, incl. former trade policy folk. Couldn't distill it for ya.

One of them suggested there might be a major US policy announcement on Chinese tech prior to the mid-terms. The alleged scandal re. Chinese hacking of Amazon/Apple is a great opportunity to make political hay out of it. Might not happen but I think the point is that Trump has not exhausted his leverage yet, by no means.

To Casual 47: Re:China would lose the trade war:

Why do you feel that China will lose the trade war?

I will reduce my above speech to a few lines but I needed to write it. :-}

Oil and gold prices down this morning.

While we are waiting to see what happens with Centamin share price:

Re:Trade war between America and China:

A lot of intellectuals seem to be of the opinion that Trump/America know what they are doing and that it will all end in a nice cosy compromise but Trump is not an intellectual.

In my humble opinion this is a an opportunity for China to call America's Trump's bluff and replace America as Top Dog.

Thanks for your interest. :-) Your thoughts please.

as long as they keep paying this dividend and shore up the share price these are worth holding. Others I'm looking at are Glencore (Cobalt) and HGM (Gold) which haven't hit my value zone just yet I'm kind of expecting a exhaustion low on gold and silver within the next 2 months

Re. Cleopatra: assay drill results will be in the November update so will give a glimpse of what's to come in the resource & reserve update.

Goldman Sachs had anticipated Cleopatra to go into production in 2019. The issues in May made them believe this would cause that to be pushed back which is part of the reason why they downgraded CEY back in May. On the conference call Andrew said that he moved one drill crew from Cleopatra to the current underground mine to help with stabilising things there. So at the moment one drill team is continuing development work at Cleopatra (was two before).

We could see Cleopatra come into production in 2020. So that could mean 580k oz + Cleopatra output, putting us well into high 600k oz pa. (The Amun/Ptah underground mine is engineered for 1.5Mtpa, Cleopatra is engineered to 1Mt pa to give you an idea).

According to the conference call transcript and the previous one in August:

Cleopatra is a near-term prospect and its development is wholly self-funded now from its own development ore.

"Near- term the Cleopatra exploration (inaudible). We've had successful early-stage results and importantly, it's coming through mineralization, so it's all nice and completely self-funding its drilling and development costs."

I can accept that the open pit transition was greater than expected and would suppose that they intended to make this up by increasing underground production/grade which was forestalled by equipment breakdown, so can forgive the Q2 figures. The Q3 production I have to put down to poor management. I agree that Pardey could not give the new guidance at the Denver presentation before an rns but he should have at least tried to avoid or been vague giving guidance. My concern is that the market seeing these as lies may begin to wonder if the company's claim to have a valid legal document for the 160km exploitation area may not be as good as they claim.

Funny how all of a sudden people are (pretending) to be concerned about the legal case and even throw in the spectre of nationalisation.

The faux panic is so transparent. Anywho, good luck to them, Centamin can take care of itself and will resume business, excelling the usual before long.

Centamin prides itself on operational excellence, and I am confident Mark will be an invaluable leader in upholding this core value as we remain focused on developing and driving growth."

This guy will probably carry the can
