Still a lot of interest in Celtic shares. You always wonder if the club might do a fundraising again however. Football club shares have a long history of constant investor raiding.
IF not, these shares are very cheap and could easily double in the coming 12-18 months.

I take it Celtic are out of the Cup? Won't help the shares short term.
Medium term all the other things being mentioned are supportive.
Will add on weakness ( ie a few P lower if I can).

article in the Sunday press suggesting that a bidder David Burnside is lining up to buy Murray's Rangers shares and has the backing of several private equity groups.

The interesting part of the report though was this bit which is attributed to Burnside....

"When you look at what is happening in England with Russian and even Icelandic oligarchs and venture capitalists buying up clubs it seems that every premiership club is being looked at,so why not Rangers. The club has a special appeal about it because of the merchandising and the very name of Glasgow Rangers which is internationally known"

I agree with him about that but there are those, and I don't believe they would all be Celtic fans, who would argue that Celtic's international brand is much more valuable and in the ascendancy than Rangers - my guess and it's no more than this is that if Burnside buys Murray's shares the media spotlight is then bound to fall on Celtic and the possibilities for something similar to develop there - it's well known that the private equity boys have more money right now than they know what to do with so Celtic must look attractive to them.

Interesting development today on two fronts FTSE down 100 and all other markets down similar amounts - Celtic shares up 3%+.

I agree with the Independent ie "one of the city's best kept secrets"

Unlike a lot of other quoted clubs it's actually run as a business. I remember being at an AGM a year or two back and after listening to the talks from the platform I felt they were focussing on the business side just a little too much ie being too prudent.

On reflection I think they got it just right. Now with the new manager who is a pragmatist(not a religion) and has shown that he can buy well at the level Celtic can afford and the income now beginning to come in from work done on increasing overseas interest in the brand the shares look cheap, very cheap on a relative to the sector basis.

The market won't miss this it's just a case of being patient and waiting for a re-rating IMHO

Our view: Buy

Share price: 45p (+1.75p)

Celtic Football Club has been enjoying one of its best ever seasons. At just past the half way stage, the club is some 19 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premier League, into the last eight of the Tennants' Scottish Cup and, most importantly, through to the knock-out stages of the Champions League for the first ever time.

For shareholders, success on the pitch has not always converted into success for their investment.

Although the club has dominated the Scottish Premier League for the last decade, its share price was literally decimated between 2001 and 2003, and after staging something of a recovery over the following year, the shares hit a new all-time low in August last year.

However, the last six months have finally seen shareholders rewarded, with its strong results on the field, combined with more disciplined cost control, helping profits to grow exponentially and the share price to double.

The stock added another 4 per cent as the company announced a strong set of interim results yesterday, and continued progress in the Champions League would be sure to push the shares higher.

In spite of its recent recovery, Celtic still looks incredibly cheap on any measure. Its pre-tax profits for the first half alone are less than three times its market value. Furthermore, there remains every chance that the club may get caught up in the recent takeover fever that has gripped the UK football industry over the past few months.

Either way, it looks unlikely that shareholders can lose at these levels. One of the City's best kept secrets. Buy.

Difficult to tell how good Milan are on that showing . They moved the ball about well but had no punch and at times looked as if they could play all week without scoring.

That said although the result itself is not bad the manner in which it was accomplished was disappointing - as far as I can recall other than a free kick and a poorish effort from Aiden the Italian goalie could have gone off for a lasagne without making any diffrence to the result.

Hope I am wrong but can't see Celtic scoring in the second leg other than from a free kick so realistically 2-0 or 3-0 looks on the cards. The team is though moving gradually in the right direction so if that's how it turns out I won't be too disappointed GS needs at least 3 -4 years in control before it's reasonanble to judge his managerial ability -it can't be easy for him to judge how well he is doing right now because frankly the opposition in Scotland is woefull and that's being kind. European nights like this are usefull in giving GS a measure of what he has achieved and how much more work he's got ahead.

In the meantime this is a soundly run business and after the share price gets over the effect of the Champions League exit I think it will start to move ahead again in anticipation of beeter things to come and certain reappearance in the CL next season with more experience and possibly one or two better playesr in key positions

0-0 is almost as good as a 2-1 win because a 2-1 win means Milan come out with all guns blazing. Game on.

Louie76 - well, let's hope for a similar run!

Must admit to being a bit disappointed. Too many of our flair players had off nights (Naka tried v. hard, but nothing quite fell for him; Aiden didn't have his best game; JVoH looked a little sluggish (perhaps not 100% fit)), but on the flip side, I thought we were solid defensively (centre-halves played well, Sno and Lenny mopped up a lot of ball).

Let's see how things go in a couple of weeks time. Chuffed we kept a clean sheet.

Its pretty simple to send your certificate off to your dealing account, usually all you have to do is look for the "crest transfer form"

See below for example with selftrade

I've used it in the past and its quite a quick process, downside is losing your Celtic share certificate but if you feel you may sell in the near future or eventually, then no time to get sentimental.

Celtic FC sign US radio deal to score in lucrative American market
By Ken Symon

CELTIC FOOTBALL Club has signed a deal with an American radio business that will make radio commentaries on its games available in households across the US.

In signing the agreement with Sirius Radio, Celtic becomes only the second UK club to make such a deal. The other is Chelsea, the English Premiership champions last season.

Peter Lawwell, the Celtic chief executive said the club believed that the deal was key to developing the Celtic brand and support base in the American market. The club will also run soccer camps in America.

In another part of its move to develop the brand in America, the club is to play the MLS All-Stars in July, a game which will be David Beckham's first in the US.

As part of the sponsorship tie-ins for the game, PepsiCo will produce 20 million special cans of Pepsi carrying the club logos of both the All-Stars and Celtic.

The moves are reckoned to be key in establishing the club in a US market where soccer is becoming increasingly popular from a very low basis of interest and support compared to American football, basketball and baseball.

Lawwell refused to put any financial projections on what the contract with Sirius would make for the Parkhead club. He said: "We expect the contract to make us a small amount of revenue but the real purpose is to build the Celtic brand in the American market.

"In Scotland we are at saturation point, the growth will come from Ireland and further afield."

He said that being part of the SPL meant that marketing opportunities were limited and the club had to look to new markets.

He added that in addition to their contributions on the football field, Japanese player Shunsuke Nakamura, the club's Polish players and former Irish international Roy Keane had been important in this regard.

Lawell said that the club had produced a very sound set of financial results with the club transfers - particularly the £8m sale of Stilian Petrov to Aston Villa being a good bit of business.

He said that the club had had a good run in Europe but that that was also the case in the 2002-03 season when Celtic reached the Seville Uefa Cup final, a year in which they had made a £7.8m loss.

Lawwell said that the club had built up other revenues and cut costs, which was the difference between this past year's financial performance and that of the 2002-03 season.

Celtic score publicity coup ahead of US tour
TERRY MURDEN

CELTIC Football Club have signed up with a US radio station to broadcast live commentary across America as part of a brand-building campaign ahead of a lucrative tour this summer.

The deal with New York-based Sirius Satellite Radio will expose Celtic to millions of listeners who subscribe to the channel for $12 (£6) a month.

The Celtic football programme will run for the rest of this season and the whole of next and provide valuable publicity in the run-up to a two-match tour, including a glamorous tie against a Major League Soccer All Stars team that could mark the American debut for former England captain David Beckham.

Celtic's Sirius deal follows a similar arrangement with English Premiership champions Chelsea, whose matches have attracted about 13 million listeners a week since the start of the current season.

Sirius has 5.5 million subscribers and Celtic will earn a royalty, retaining half of the income while the other 50% is shared among the other Scottish Premier League clubs. It is not expected to make a huge contribution to the club's income.

Peter Lawwell, Celtic chief executive, said: "It is an exciting development for us, but it is not a transforming deal. This is about brand exposure."

The football programmes are presented by Charlie Stillitano, a former general manager of the New York/New Jersey Metrostars and an organiser of the World Cup in 1994. His co-presenter is Giorgio Chinaglia, former New York Cosmos and Italian national team striker.

Celtic will provide interviews and news content and there will be a live phone-in.
