I can't see them borrowing to do buy backs. Why would they when they can get the returns they report from reinvesting. They're also hoping for a significant sum from Argentina. To borrow for buy backs would be insanity

I asked Rob Bailhache, Burford’s head of investor relations and on 8 Feb he replied that due to the 2023 transition to US GAAP accounting they will have to transition to quarterly accounts reporting rather than the less frequent trading updates. ‘When we know our plans we will let shareholders know’.

I just wonder if they are considering a partial share buyback if they can borrow enough, supported by their 2022 and first quarter 2023 accounts. There is no requirement to give trading updates under GAAP.

Speaking as a retired auditor, it is almost impossible legally to produce meaningful audited accounts for litigation funders when the litigation extends over many years, is so uncertain and the proceeds so ‘lumpy’.

Yes, definitely top-up time now ahead of results which will be issued one day next week which could well provide the long -awaited inflection point.

Generally thought it's the dollar albeit with a tail risk that a judge finds otherwise - as in - nothing ever certain with litigation

I think I'd rather have dollars thanks! Currency, if payment to Burford is judged to be required, hasn't yet been decided, has it?

Next week should see a Business update from Burford for the half year to end December. If we get the increase in case resolution we expect, this would be the trigger for a significant market rerate of Burford.

Interesting piece on demand for litigation finance as we head into more straitened economic times:

aifred, porsche basically disses every stock that he comments on and that includes the UK stock market. I assume he has no investments because clearly with the FTSE100 at an all time high he either doesn't have a idea of stock choice or he is already broke lol
