donald,

Given that the time to reach either outcome is perverse doesn't it argue for a third outcome as yet undefined by posters? But one which more accuratly reflects that fact that BUR assess a positive outcome at only 30-something percent.

I've lightened my position recently but continue to hold.

Hi kaos3,

Is Preska 'a safe pair of hands'? And, if so, cui bono?

Makes you wonder what the Judge does for fun. At work it's like playing chess with the law of Spain, US and Argenti na. Studying all the possible positions and implications. None of it against the clock. Sadly no checkmate will happen without the board being tipped and everyone disagreeing where the pieces were.Still progress is being made and with many other cases in play. 23 should see the pipeline push out some good news. The art is patience not chess really.

Think they need a lot more than that, either to appeal or settle, so personally I don't think this of itself tells us anything about the final outcome.

The mad thing is it has been a 7 month wait for a response on an application for summary judgment.

A summary judgment means the judge can make a decision because on the facts pleaded, even if you accept everything that one side argues, they have no prospect at all of winning. Their case must be unarguable (and hence, there is no need for argument at trial).

To spend 7 months on a conclusion that can only be: (1) that one side's case is utterly hopeless; or (2) it is not straightforward and so needs a trial, seems perverse.

From Seb MarleFor those who follow the YPF exprop case and own BUR shares, Arg just announced a $1b repo of sovereign bonds (currently trading mid 30s).- Will those bonds be used as guarantee while Arg appeals a (possible) adverse ruling?- With this LME, Arg would not have to issue new debt.Could be that will Argentina appeal, use bonds to allow appeal guarantee and it's all kicked along for another few years. On the hope Burford settle for a lower amount or a change of politics pushes the problem to someone else.If they are preparing and Seb is right it would seem we are getting closer to a Judge Preska outcome.

There is some speculation on the lse share chat thread that BUR may have been providing the finance for Nanoco's IP right's case against Samsung.

Bit of a move up in the US today. The general expectation was for judgment by year end so surely it could land any day

Buying those out of the money calls looks like a great trade on the Argentina cases. We should know much more about them by April. A decent win should see the shares to at least $15 (IMO) or c.$2.50 for those options, agains 35c downside, so a bet at 7:1 odds (at least) against a win. Feels like the odds are better than that.

Looks like strong volumes - strong for Burford, small in reality - going through on April 23 $12.50 call options today @$0.35… that’ll be post the 2022 results release… good to see someone has confidence… as mentioned on this board before, cases can settle coming into corporate year ends... perhaps it’s been a busy week.
