Am not a shareholder but under Mifid 2 the FCA get a data dump every night that gives the details of every trade for every stock including for what account name and who gave the instruction.

It is really easy for them to trace trades now. The have all the information at their fingertips.

One of the very few pluses of MIFID2.

On the Fair Value treadmill You could also call it the earnings multiple treadmill In that even if you didn't account using Fair value but sought a multiple on realised gains you would still need to repeat past performance and past performance does include turning $18m into $1bn

Clearly, this all has to die down (which it will) and then we get a meaningful recovery

The less good point is that management moved to internally managed as part of a nefarious plot Moving to internally managed post credit crunch performance of externally managed funds and conflict of interests was very fashionable

They could bounce back a little after MM digest what MW published.I belief another RNS from BUR will come out to defend what was said by MW.

Was always going to tank when MW published Still my first impression of the MW note (fwiw) is that it's better than the first one The Fair Value treadmill point is a good one And they are on strong ground re governance Glad they published just in time to read before the market opened

Muddy Waters may not have directly places orders but i bet the organizations that canc3lled the huge trsdes just prior to the delayed tweet are fe3ling the heat. All depends if the regulators can prove collusion.
Hopefully, a few raids with search warrants will follow.

Yes, the exchange should have the technology to trace back to the people who did that.

I can see arrests coming very soon.

It is also worth noting that according to FCA data Muddy Waters initiated its short position in Burford on 5 August, the day before its teaser tweet about a report being forthcoming, reduced its short position by 20% on 6 August, the day of the teaser tweet, and exited a further 63% of the position on 7 August, the day of the report's release. In other words, while Muddy Waters was suggesting that Burford was insolvent, it was at the same time buying Burford shares.

Most of not all successful companies have debt, it's called leveraging!

Anyone else think there's more to this episode than us pis know about ? Lets speculate especially with all the director buys , maybe a potential takeover has been spiked ? For me the one big question is why isn't BUR self funding after a decade of successful business model , even allowing for the growth cash requirements you would have though self funding status should have been met after so long ? Just saying
