micha I love your optimism but gaps usually get filled and these have two large gaps, one way down at £23 / £24 odd and one at about £29 ish

that is true - but also a gap up to £32.74

I remain long from £26 . Added £29.98 on results day. Long term chart looks v good.
As ever i keep an open mind to both arguments.

Meanwhile, Imperial brands and British American Tobacco were in the red after US Food and Drug Administration commissioner Scott Gottlieb, who is due to step down on 5 April, said in Washington on Tuesday that a nicotine ruling is likely to be ready by the summer. He did not specifically promise a menthol ban, but he did say the FDA may consider pulling pod-based e-cigarettes.

Governments are being urged to enforce bans on tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship at sporting events, amid concerns that deals with Formula One alone could result in the promotion of tobacco to more than one billion people worldwide.

Only been in here a few months so any views from you longer termers please as to what this usually drops after XD day, just the usual divi or far more, tia

After such a good run I see a couple of gaps to fill lower down, any thoughts?

BATS pays a huge dividend though, it's rasing dividends, it's got revenue growth pencilled in for this year and next, even at these levels it's got a forward yield of 6.6% that almost double the FTSE average. The problem it had when it was over £50 is the yield was really low.

Maybe off tomorrow though:

San Francisco officials look to ban e-cigarettes

Altria (MO -1.9%) is lower after officials in San Francisco proposed legislation to ban the sale of e-cigarettes in the city.

The proposed bill also seeks to bar companies like Juul (JUUL) from occupying property owned by the city.

"We don’t want them in our city," Supervisor Shamann Walton says of e-cigarette sellers.

British American Tobacco: $40 Per Share Still Attractive

Summary
Shares have had a great 2019 thus far.

Dividend and valuation still look attractive here.

Firm's low cash flow multiple protects against downside risk.

Thanks Philanderer, reading between the lines of all these articles I think it will be years, if ever anything substantial happens as it's too good a thing for the governments around the world at the moment. Also it only states that the FDA want to ban menthol and stop the corner shops sells flavoured liquids etc etc, so I am sure that if you can't buy it at a corner shop you will go somewhere else and if you can't have menthol you will switch to something else so not really concerned at the moment.
