09/9/2014 13:07 | With $30bn profit last year and a strong cash flow, BP. can buy back its own shares for ever as long as that situation exists. I will hold on to mine, so eventually, in theory,I will own the company. luvvly, jubbly. | ![]() careful
09/9/2014 11:23 | supermarkey, If you come along and say "this is a dog, discuss" you are unlikely to be taken seriously. Maybe you should start with some opinions of your own. What is you view of the company in say 2 years time? What do you think of projects like Angola given the significant divestments of recent years? Do you think that America will bleed BP till it no longer exists? Do you think that the relationship with Russia through Rosneft will be ultimately successful given the current animosities? Personally I think that the uncertainties surrounding the gulf will clear and the company should be successful in other geographical areas. Ian. | ![]() old giggleswickian

09/9/2014 10:25 | Hi guys im not shorting bp.at the moment. Keep your pants on. The price I quoted was just looking at the next historical support level. Now that recent support has failed is that not wise? | ![]() supermarky

07/9/2014 17:41 | If Scotland voted to leave UK If Scotland reneged on it's debt, built up within UK, to borrow our way(and Scotland's) out of trouble, could rump UK seize a couple of oil wells in Scotland's waters and just pump the oil to the nearest UK port or load onto ships until the debt was paid back in oil revenue? | ![]() robertfaulkner
07/9/2014 11:02 | Alphorn - short answer is yes they could, but it would breach international law. In that respect, i don't think any party has floated the idea. | doe808
07/9/2014 10:47 | A 'Sunday' question: could an independent Scotland nationalise the oil fields? Anyone know about international law? | ![]() alphorn
06/9/2014 14:59 | Surely it makes economic sense to drag it out and by that time they would have a more oil friendly goverment to deal with. I do wonder why when the usa caused the crash with its bent financial dealings with the rest of the world that the worlds governments have not been sueing it for damages. | ![]() 2hoggy
06/9/2014 14:26 | I hope BP do an Exxon (Valdez) and drag this out through the appeals process for twenty years and thus reduce the net present value of the fines. Bending over has cost them dear in a corrupt system. | ohbummer
06/9/2014 13:21 | This is interesting: Yes it would make sense. Presumably this fine is just to go straight to the government ? Offer them say halve payable now and other incentives to settle quickly ? Perhaps if BP made a realistic offer to save years of argument and to work with the governments rather than against it woould be ideal. Of course the legal sharks will hate that idea. It would so the shares a lot of good as well as this issue is in danger now of dragging on for the rest of this decade. | ![]() johnmfrancis
06/9/2014 12:24 | Very slaggy article in Investors Chronicle this week telling us everythoing we know already (even saying its not inconceivable they might have to write off the whole Rosneft stake!). Very sell anti BP article. Won't post it here as its subscription only. I am happy for now just to hold what I have got long term. I jumped in a little too quick 4 years ago. As I said before if we do get a run on the share price short term it will look very appealing though. Havbe to agree with many comments previouis posters. We know the worst now and it'll be years of legal arguments. If the Americans had any sense they would thrash out a mutually beneficial settlement to avoid both sides endlessly making laywers rich but they dont tend to have a right lot of that !! | ![]() johnmfrancis |
