There will never be any sanctions that properly affect the big money companies there never are. Just look at what Google, Amazon, Starbucks etc get away with in tax evasion. Whatever Russian / American disagreements BP will carry on churning out oil and profits

Great buying opportunity

What price's in worst scenario for the Russian assets 420p or 360p - Gulf blow out level assuming this. Putin may not want to lose BP. He likes the power to bully and exploit - more fun for him if in the back yard.

I see the Russian sanctions announced are mainly imports of things like food and a restriction on Ukrainian airlines. It looks to me like a fairly mild warning to the west on what it could do if it wanted.

They could stop ALL western airlines flying over Russia if they wanted. Its hard to see them doing too much with gas and oil as it affects Russias main revenue earner and I think they do need BPs and Western oil companies technical knowledge help.

Of course it suits Russia to know they supply so much of Europes Gas as well that they could shut off if they wanted ! Thats why Cameron is such an utter clown in keep opening his mouth against Russia. We have enough of our own problems in the uk with so many issues without continuing to stick our nose in in other folks affairs. Just look what a complete waste of time / life / money and effort the ridiculous adventures in Iraq and Afghanistan have been, Do our idiot politicians never never learn ? As I recall it was Russia who actually stopped us getting involved the Syria Mayhem as well !! We have a lot to thank them for !!

A dreadful tradgey as MH17 was and we all want to see the cuplrits brought to justice what about the idiocy of the Civiation airline authority allowing airlines to fly over Ukraine knowing it to be a warzone and planes had been shot down ? I dont hear Cameron and Obama saying much about that ? Of course this terrible act must be reacted to but making an enemy out of Russia is not the way to achieve it.

A few big negatives:

The Rosneft Stake which is likely to prove an excellent medium / long term investment. The fear being the sanctions threat effect and what Russia might do in retaliation. The continued idiotic statements by our Buffoon of a Prime Minister dont help.

The market fears in general that we may be facing some sort of big correction.

The continued Macondo Well overhang that BP are still likely to be fighting legal battles over for many years to come.

General Summer market uncertainness.

If you take a long term view on these and buy now and then on weakness I believe thats going to pay off long term.

Theres always the possibility of some mega deal one day as well with someone like Exxon.

Looks like 463 is the entry point to look for. DAX taking a pounding. Should be a good bet when that starts to turn. Got it tuned in on Monkeysoft for a long. Runes not quite right yet.

Afternoon all.
478 is the key at the moment. If that holds, it should just about break five quid again. If it goes, hello 463.
Signs are, it wants up. In a stable world I'd be going long with the monkey, but at the moment, there are much better plays elsewhere in the FTSE, so I'm staying out.
Trade well and prosper Earthlings.......
