according to thisismoney website. the yield based on current share price
is aroound 5.15% at 23.4p per share.

Market Cap £83,779.41m * 0515 = around 4.3 billion.
obviouslty the more share buybacks the company keeps
doing then the less 23.4ps it will payout.

Lets put this into context. Y/E turnover for 2013 was 379 Billion Dollars
with a Profit after Tax of 23.7 Billion Dollars.

However bad this turns out to be and we probably wont know for a good while yet
it doesnt detract from the that BP is still a very good company to invest in.

And dont forget there is always the chance of a merger with someone like Exxon.

I wouldnt want to see any more asset sales, Preferably I prefer for the longer term BP to plan ahead for more expansion.

If you look for example at the Oil Services Sector many of the shares of the Drillers are quite depressed. Eg Noble, Diamond Offshore, Transocean (Yes them !) and even Seadrill.

I have always wondered whats stopping the Majors acutally buying these Drillers ?

I may be clutching straws.
But I was hoping that Putin would be kinder to BP. now that the American system has been shown to be corrupt.

Putin brokered this BP. deal and it would be an opportunity for him to show that he is a more reliable partner that the USA.

he needs BP.

Wishful contrary thinking?

bp. may eventually have to pay up to £9bn extra above what they hoped for.
yesterday the shares fell 6% or £5.3bn.

that leaves up to £3.7bn left.
yesterdays fall was just about enough enough on a worst case scenario.

Thanks Skinny. I meant the Halliburton BOD, should have said what I meant! Piper Alpha killed some 160 and that was a US company, Occidental of CA. No fatuous clean water act here though. Crude oil is a 100% natural product that is in the oceans anyway, it is not pollution. BP really does need to get some decent lawyers and UK ministers on its side.

Market does not like uncertainty but I hope BP use the USA legal system to drag this out for ever and whilst doing so endlessly bring up Union Carbide in Bhopal , at least BP didnt kill hundreds of people , oh I forgot it was in another country so thats Ok.

Can't understand BP giving indemnities. Concerned that Cameron has not raised this publicly: it is a tax on UK. Tried to see if cheney is still involved but website does not list a BOD.

I think the calculations at the maximum fine levels based on 4.1 million barrels spilt is approx 11 million whereas BP have estimated the fine at just over £2 billion.

BP could need another £9 billion.

Won't be due for a while and that is still worst case. How much does BP spend on the divi each year? That will give us a good idea of the impact this will have on BP?

I do not hold BP, but just wanted to say how disgusted I am in the way BP has been treated. USA's day of reckoning is coming. soon to be relegated as the worlds largest economy. The trouble is if US goes so do the rest of us.

If Haliburton had done a decent job there may never have been an explosion, obviously with the V.President a memeber the board helps.

My advice is don't use any US company trading in the UK ie. Starbucks, Amazon etc etc don't pay taxes anyway.

By the way, I do not currently hold BP but I am quite certain the company is rather more US owned that UK owned by shareholding.

Good old Uncle-Sam eh! Clearly not a man with insight into present day antics of the world leading country, nor I wage a student of its own history.

Apart from a corrupt legal system, where judges are chosen politically rather than by competence or experience, and a government system that puts civil authorities in a position to fund themselves by robbing companies (as they did the banks (and most particularly European banks), the nation was built on deceit and genocide.

Even to achieve their vaunted state of independence in the first place they, the mainly property owning class, terrorised other citizens to either acquiesce to independence or flee to what became Canada. Then independence obtained (while the British were fighting the latest threat to world peace - Napoleon) they stepped up the theft of land and the slaughter of, the original occupiers of the land.

Chew on those truths.
