It is not 'cups and handles' - this is superstition. It is more likely that the MM bosses are back in the chair from their long summer holiday, and more confident about raising the share price to what they think is appropriate for the improving business position of the company.

BoE seen unlikely to hike rates; Northern Rock woes may spell rate reduction


LONDON (Thomson Financial) - The Bank of England is unlikely to hike
interest rates again in the current cycle while the prospect of a reduction is
gathering momentum after the country's fifth biggest mortgage lender Northern
Rock turned to the central bank for emergency funding, a Thomson Financial News
poll shows.
A poll of 35 economists found none expect the BoE bank rate to rise above
their current level of 5.75 pct by the end of the year. The number of economists
predicting another rate hike, to 6.0 pct, has been falling steadily from 24 at
the start of August to 11 a fortnight ago to none today.

hi sm...........quiet around here today...........everyone seems to be on NRK.........look at VOD, only 127m traded with 90 mins of the day to go...........banks seem to be recovering some lost ground...........the decent ones that is........

cup and handle explanation for you sm...............going to check other sources as it implies something like a £7 - £8 rise...............!!!!!!!!!

Target: The projected advance after breakout can be estimated by measuring the distance from the right peak of the cup to the bottom of the cup.

US going well...........evey chance of a rate cut tomorrow by all accounts.........just the size now.........

The news of the new joint advisor Citygroup seems to be going down well............

another move up there from the mms............looking good for this afternoon............the techmark doing rather well today in comparison to the non tech stuff..............Sage has put in a decent rise............

all bets still on then for 0.5% cut tomorrow.............

Northern Rock in the news still.............great trading oppo there if you've got the nerve.....staying out of that sector me.........banks taking a hit again.........

apart from NRK, activity is very low............and a mixture of red and blue on the monitor...........

another great week for Axon...........seems there's plenty of US interest still in the afternoons..........strong volume on up days and little volume on down days.........all the covering brokers are positive along with press coverage..........

remember, Tuesday is the big day............and probably Tuesday night anyhow.......7pm onwards normally I think the Fed announces.............

have this feeling that once the UK markets close the US will begin to move back into positive teritory............not often we're a drag on their trading.............

FTSE I think finsihes up for the week..........if it wasn't for today it would have been a real good week generally..............
