So where are we all going next with our Axon proceeds?

Personally I've trimmed my self trade ISA portfolio right back in recent weeks and am now only in 2 (AHT & TLW) both of which I think are already very undervalued. The rest is cash. I may pile the cash into my 2 current holdings but there must be some other bottom fishing bargains out there. What are your recovery plays...anyone?

Equities wise I'm not sure if we're past the worst yet, I think by and large we probably are but we could have a few painful bumps before any sustained recovery.

All in my very humble opinion of course.

Jeez that's came round quick!!! I've been so busy in the oversees property market I've missed a lot of this.

So what happens if you dont sell today, I assume our Axon shares would be exchanged for HCL shares. Is this the case and will they be tradeable on the LSE?

Axon Group plc ("Axon" or the "Company") announces that, the High Court of Justice has today made an order sanctioning the HCL Scheme by which HCL EAS's acquisition of Axon is being implemented.

In order for the HCL Scheme to become Effective, the Court will now need to confirm the associated HCL Capital Reduction at the HCL Reduction Court Hearing. This hearing will take place on 12 December 2008. It is expected that the last day of dealings in Axon Shares will be 11 December 2008 and that the listing and admission to trading on the London Stock Exchange's main market for listed securities of Axon Shares will be cancelled at 8.00 a.m. on 16 December 2008, the day following the anticipated effective date of the HCL Scheme.

U.S. MBA's Mortgage Applications More Than Doubled Last Week
Email | Print | A A A

By Bob Willis

Dec. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Mortgage applications in the U.S. surged by a record last week as lending rates plunged after the Federal Reserve pledged to buy mortgage-backed debt.

The Mortgage Bankers Association's index of applications to purchase a home or refinance a loan jumped 112 percent to 857.7, the highest level since March, from 404.4 the prior week. The group's refinance index skyrocketed 203 percent, while the purchase index rose 38 percent.

The Fed's announcement sent the rate on 30-year fixed mortgages down to a three-year low, sparking demand to refinance adjustable-rate loans. Even so, rising unemployment and faltering consumer confidence will keep most buyers sidelined, signaling the three-year housing slump hasn't reached bottom yet.

The drop in rates was "a big, early Christmas gift for borrowers who have enough equity -- and solid enough credit -- to qualify for a refinance loan," Michael Larson, a housing analyst at Weiss Research in Jupiter, Florida, said before the report.

Blockbuy (what's the point....?????) - I hope your stock picking technique is a little better than your understanding of politics and economics:-

Increase to basic rate tax payers personal allowance of £600 introduced in September will be made permanent. It will be increased by a further £130 from April 2009.

The basic rate tax band is increased by indexation plus an additional £800 from £34,800 to £37,400

Raise age related income tax allowance in line with prices to £9,490 for people aged 65 to 74 and to £9,640 for people aged 75 and over

Income tax personal allowance will be restricted for those with incomes over £100,000

From £140,000 of income, the remaining allowance will be completely withdrawn at the same withdrawal rate, so that people with the very highest incomes do not benefit from the personal allowance

New additional higher rate of income tax of 45 per cent (and 37.5 per cent for dividend income) for those with incomes above £150,000

VAT reduced from 17.5% to 15% from 1st December 2008 to 31st December 2009.

The planned increase in the Small Company Rate from 21% to 22% from 1 April 2009 has been deferred until 1 April 2010

Measures include a new Small Business Finance Scheme to support bank lending and a new HMRC business payment support services to allow tax bills to be phased

For 2009/10, empty commercial properties with a rateable value below £15,000, will be exempt from business rates.

Government will make a payment of £60 to all pensioners in the New Year. Around 12.5 million pensioners will benefit.

Child benefit increases are being brought forward from April 2009 to January 2009

The PBR announces the creation of a National Employment Partnership bringing together the Government and major employers to tackle rising unemployment

Usualy disclaimer - The above is based on my understanding as at November 2008 of the current taxation, legislation and HM Revenue & Customs practice, all of which are liable to change without notice. The impact of any taxation (and any tax reliefs) depends on individual circumstances

morning all...........been reading that there are signs 6-9 months equities could be on the road to recovery (rather than the volatile phase we're in now I guess)...........they're saying it'll be a disconnect as corporate earnings will still be lower, but stocks will rise (I guess as stocks look ahead rather than backwards as company reports do...........)...........

way I see it, once the banks have sorted their mess out they'll be happier to lend......once this happens the money can start flowing around again...............so maybe the readings might be right????????????????
