At the time if the Beaufort scandal the government was pressured to enact a European law to the effect that all assets held in custody by Financial institutions were completely and legally separate from the assets of the company and untouchable. The government refused saying that it was still in process etc etc . Not sure if this was part of the general Brexit/anti Europe rhetoric or if that rule has now been enacted. My broker at the time contacted me with a load of BS about how solvent they were etc etc to which I replied that this was an industry problem and rather than tell me how good they are the needed to get together with their peers and pressure the government to sort it out . Not sure where we are today but I always check the results of my broker to check they are in good shape and use it as a bargaining stick when necessary ...

The Insolvency Service not only charges whatever they like, they then slap 20% VAT on top of their charges as well. A total racket, indeed...

When you say client assets, do you mean cash holdings as opposed to me holding a unit trust and the value being under, say Standard Life stewardship? And surely shares held in a nominee account are like wise firewalled?Cash, I have no idea about, but 'ownership' of that cash does not sit with the SIPP company does it?

just idle gossip from someone based in fr dr b.

i did that maths a while ago and i think fr is something like 15-18% eps for >30% mkt cap. and europe as a whole would be more than 50% mkt cap for 30% loss of op profit,

theres an interesting wrinkle with sipps and the like. in the ordinary course client assets in sipps will be held in a separate custody entity which is bankruptcy remote from the operator. however where an insolvency occurs and there arent sufficient assets to pay the costs of the insolvency practitioner then they can reach into sipps.

look up beaufort secs.

am hearing fr progressing but quite a bit of execution risk with unions. 3-4 still target. i would guess they pay down something like 2 of debt, bag 0.5 for group and special the rest. not sure on timing pre 26/11

Cheers for that. I read in the ii terms that they held cash with other entities, various banks, but wasn't sure about equities.

Cassini, the money isn't help by the SIPP provider, so creditors wouldn't be able to get their hands on it.

LGEN share price storming ahead today after recent results with a current P/E of 7.8 leaving Aviva relatively unsung on a P/E ratio 3 points lower at 4.8...what can one make of that!!The former is up 4.4% and dear old Aviva just 1.24...better add some more like Eurofox....the share price must get a deserved re-rating soon? Good job that I also kept faith with LGEN.

Off topic but for those of you that hold SIPPs, does anyone know what the position of a SIPP holder is, if the SIPP is held with one provider and they go bust?

Let's assume the SIPP value is above the £85,000 FSCF compensation limit.

In fact I don't limit the question to just SIPPs, it could be that people hold more than one type of account with the same broker.

Do people take the risk, or split their investments between different providers up to the FCSF limit, or am I missing some important piece of information? The impression I get from the bulletin boards on ADVFN is that £85k is regarded as small potatoes by many of the investors here.
