10/4/2020 15:57 | No surprise to why Aviva is lowely rated - it's a huge failure to create value over an extended timeframe imv. Compare to PRU and it's utterly embarrassing. | ![]() essentialinvestor

10/4/2020 09:05 | It really does not matter who wrote pandemic insurance for Wimbledon (or anyone else) except for one matter. It is highly unlikely that the primary insurer has retained more than £10-20 million of the risk of the first event and it will have reinsured any higher exposure with the likes of Munich Re (who I know offer such cover), almost certainly in layers spread around several reinsurers. The one issue which is of interest for any primary insurer exposed is whether their reinsurance cover includes a reinstatement clause and/or is multiyear. The relevance here is that if a second wave emerges, especially on a multiyear policy, and there is no reinstatement the second (and subsequent) waves could be treated as separate events which may not be mitigated by reinsurance which has already been used by the first event. I cannot imagine such a cover being bought without reinstatement (or suitable terms concerning further waves) given the known tendency of pandemics to have multiple waves. | ![]() wba1

09/4/2020 19:31 | Hi Linton, I suspect people have been selling because of the dividend withdrawal. Personally I would rather they did not pay out the dividend, cash is king. Time to buy is when the bad news is out and people are selling. Any news of a dividend payment could see a big push up imo. Hopefully some news flow from them in the near future. | ![]() pepi moon
09/4/2020 19:04 | Sorry, found another one ..a bit more current "I hesitate to make a list Of all the countless deals I've missed; Bonanzas that were in my grip I watched them through my fingers slip; The windfalls which I should have bought Were lost because I over thought: I thought of this , I thought of that, I could have sworn I smelled a rat, And while I thought things over twice Another grabbed them at the price. It seems I always hesitate, Then make my mind up much too late. A very cautious man am I And that is why I never buy. A corner here, ten acres there, Compounding values year by year, I chose to think and as I thought, They bought the deals I should have bought. The golden chances I had then Are lost and will not come again. Today I cannot be enticed For everything's so overpriced. The deals of yesteryear are dead; The market's soft and so's my head. At times a teardrop drowns my eye For deals I had but did not buy; And now life's saddest words I pen ‘IF ONLY I'D INVESTED THEN!' | ![]() yf23_1

09/4/2020 16:48 | The FED action today is extremely bad news because it reminds me of the start of deflation in the Japaneses economy several decades ago, which zombified corporate debt and led to equities eventually doing very poorly for a long time - flooding the system with debt bailouts when there has been demand collapse is like pushing on a piece of string | ![]() eurofox

09/4/2020 15:03 | looking at my bond portfolio and slxx, bond prices through credit spread tightening are back to Jan levels already. this will mean that avivas solvency should be increasing substantially because about 1/3 of the move from 206 to 175 was due to credit spreads. the bond markets are definitely in post virus mood | ![]() cjac39
