Agreed.

Dividend postponed, Same thing happening in other stocks in other sectors.

Important to bolster the balance sheet in times of uncertainty until the clouds start to clear.

Just par for this board. Surely you have not forgotten the expensive fiasco over the cancelation of the prefs? They act first and think afterwards. I doubt they thought sufficiently far ahead to ramp the shares by announcing a dividend, sell shares, and then pul the dividend.

I very much doubt that they'll pay a 30p dividend in Q4. If we're lucky we'll get the interim plus some chocolate sprinkles to keep the kiddies quiet....spud

The dividend hasn't cancelled, merely delayed until Q4 on advice by the regulators. I felt the same initially when I first read the announcement, but after reading again payment has been delayed unless they get stung by a big payout hit, which given the lack of cars, travel and business is very unlikely

To announce a dividend payment of 21.4p and allow people to purchase shares based on that announcement is tantamount to fraud and the UK Government have basically given Aviva a free ticket to commit fraud legally.
And then to have proof of insider trading is just the cherry on top - Disgusting !
This is a disgrace, people like myself purchased shares based on the guarantee that the dividend payment had been finalised by the board - Can they be trusted to pay any dividend from now on ?
If they had cancelled the dividend before any annoucement then yes that's my tough luck but this is fraud.

Board should be reported to FCA.
One member selling /buying is ok - could be for any reason
Selling as a group implies collusion / use of inside info/ knowledge of future events
That is a big no no at any time

Looking forward ,

Travel insurance will still be bought by those who travel abroad , specially USA .I can see premiums rising to cover the potential cost of virus returning.

Home insurance is mandatory ,if you have mortgage or you rent out as investment.

Business insurance is mandatory if you are still trading for public and employee liability

Car insurance is mandatory, although I expect slightly less cars on the roads in big cities as more people will be unemployed.

Pension schemes , if you are out of work and there is no contribution from your employer then there is no point in taken one out or contributing to it.

Unfortunately, it’s likely insurances sold in all areas will be less as more people will be unemployed and businesses shut leading to less travel .

Zwild. Generally I agree with your comment. But not all insurers are alike. Those with a robust financial position (like Aviva), a diversified global position (like Allianz) or an unexposed book (like Sabre) should not respond unthinkingly to political pressure. Those with weaker financial positions, heavily focused in very exposed markets (like many US insurers) I agree need to be ultra cautious.

Tulloch talks a good game, but since hes been appointed to CEO the company has backwards.

With most of the developed world in some form of lockdown and entering a very deep and who knows how prolonged recession, the board should have cancelled the div weeks ago, like so many other companies. Things could still be bad in a few years time. Insurance companies should act prudently and take action well before their credit ratings get in doubt or cut. Prevention always better than cure.

I hope the divi suspension is just Tulloch being clever and taking advantage to preserve funds for a brilliant future strategy. If it is that, fine. If he is unable to stand up to pressure we have a problem. It is a shame that, 15 years ago, Aviva allowed the departure of the only competent senior manager I ever saw in the organisation, Bridget McIntyre. It is their failure to nurture talent (or retain it in takeovers/mergers) which has cost them so dearly.

Well I had a reply within 20 minutes, albeit a polite cut and paste although the respondee did say my comments would be brought to the boards attention re their bonuses.

The share price went up over the last 2 weeks because it was bought for the div, thinking it was going to be paid, and now reverts as the newly acquired shares depart.

'Management' ( Lol ) here is p*ss-poor, they need to get closely informed about UCB.

Oh, this may give some reassurance..I would hope a special may be considered to, if things are somewhere near back to normal..."The Board expects to reconsider any distributions to ordinary shareholders in the fourth quarter of 2020. "

I must be a demi God, if not an expert. You see I've traded and held Aviva in its various guises since the 80's and incredibly have done very well from it, albeit getting completely turned over by Moss.I can confidently predict, be it positive or negative news, be it prudent or reckless, the share price will fall on any announcement. Normally heavily.
