5k deaths yesterday?

There have been 5.3k covid-19 deaths so far in the UK or 0.008% of the uk population.

There are currently 4-5k new cases of covid-19 a day.

I agree testing is key. The real question is why we have only been able to carry out 252k tests when Germany has tested 918k, and even Australia (with a far smaller population) has tested 303k and Canada 330k. The UK has one of the lowest tests/million of population of developed countries. Tseting strategy and management has been a shambles.

Coxsmn I think that it’s very underestimated how far the virus got. To have 5000 deaths yesterday with an IFR (death rate) of 0.5% (china’s average. Iceland by the way is below 0.19%) that means 1mln had it around 25 days ago. We had 11 days where it would be doubling every 3 days and then lockdown so maybe assume one doubling in 14 days. That’s 8mln people as a central case. If ifr is lower then it’s more. If ifa is 1% (which I really doubt) its still 4mln. If the ifr is as I suspect closer to 0.1-0.2% then we should be out sooner rather than later

Dr biotech, isn't that the Naked trader style announce the trades two weeks after the event, and then take the Pats on the back for always being right.

We currently have roughly 4-5k new cases of Covid-29 per day, at this rate over the space of 1year less than 3% of the UK population will have built up immunity to the disease. For a fifth of the UK population to build immunity would require 36K new cases every day over the same period.

I mention most of my trades real time. That’s the only way to get credibility. There are too many in here that seem to have retrospective brokers that allowed them to buy at the bottom and sell at what was the top.

Agreed but we need to be able to self test on a regular basis? If we come out of lock down and less than 5% of the population has been exposed to the virus then potentially 95% of the problem still remains.

We need a way to fast track a vaccine for everyone.

Yes, well if we have the self-test kits the gvt (and people) will be able to target positive cases and keep the spread down so we won't have to be in lockdown.

I live 30 miles outside of London. In our area there are 119 confirmed cases in a population of 268000 i.e 0.044%.My concern is the lock down doesn't solve the problem, it is preventing almost all the population from getting the disease at great expense but we can't stay locked down forever.

Well, lets have a bit of optimism...
deaths in a normal year are over 500,000..
which is about 1,400 per day
So looking at an extra 100 or less per day doesn't seem too much of a burden.
I was actually surprised that in fact the normal death rate far outweighs the current pandemic death rate.

I personally hope as a long term shareholder they get taken out from someone a great business to take over for a big boy as you say Andy share price over 20 year is poor.it would catch out those shorter big time.
