And verrily it came to pass that the share price did fall unto that which was the August low and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth among the brethren.

Fear not said the Elite Guru for if thou art lucky the ML will herald a chance of redemption but the brethren rent their garments crying 'we are forsaken' and such wimpish outbursts.

The Elite Guru filled with compassion (well a little bit)reminded the brethren that the meek and the skint will inherit the earth......but not just yet.

If you want to identify gaps on a few shares on a Daily time frame it is easy to look at the chart. If however you want to identify Daily gaps on a large number of shares you will have to go to search engines to see if such software exists or set it up yourself using a spread sheet, etc.

On the chart above you will see that the 14th candle from the right closed just above 930. The next day the share price opened higher at approx 941 but during the day the share price did drop down to approx 929 thus filling the opening gap ie. it dropped to the 930 closing price. My comment about filling the gap with a gap is incorrect the gap was already filled. The gap that remains to be filled is at 965 ie. the closing share price of the candle which is 9th from the right.

...Also going back a bit, you say the "gap" higher up at 930p in January that I mentioned above was filled by another gap...I was looking at the candlestick chart at the top of this page.

It doesnt seem to show any prints in that 930p gap - what am I missing?

Thanks.

Many thanks Bracke - very kind and funnily enough I read that exact same Investopedia piece this weekend! (& saved it to my files for reference).

However is there any other more "real time" web resource you use to identify these gaps? Was hoping to use it to analyse AHT etc myself rather than ask you all the time! :)

"Bracke - is it the tail of the August 2015 candlestick you are saying needs to fill at approx 835p?"
================================================================================

Reaching the August low is not about a gap fill, it is about testing the low and obtaining support (buyers/sellers cease selling) or not obtaining support and continuing down (sellers continue selling). It is possible that it may be supported slightly before it reaches the August low but it will be near enough to have proved the point.

Is there any (hopefully) free web resource or other software I could use to understand this gap malarky?

This will assist your understanding.

flatpack, I hope for your sake you do not get to historic lows!

I remember buying, and unfortunately selling, in the 10p range.

Good day Source

The 930 gap was filled with another gap, so not properly filled. The share price needs to rise to 965 to properly fill the lower gaps.

As I type it is within 12 points of reaching the August low and there is nothing to stop it doing so. More to the point is will the brakes hold when it gets there. You should be prepared for a chance of an intraday drop to 800.

Support below 800 is likely to be the Weekly SMA 200 currently at 759.

Yes another weakness/drop...Seems it has a gap up at 930p though that should fill sometime? (will wait for Bracke to confirm! :) Think he was still waiting for 835p, maybe this is close enough!? :)

Morning all. See the rain has bought a gloomy start to the week again in AHT land. On the bright sid the flood pumps will be flying out the door on both sides of the pond.

trade low on 24/8 was 838p but that was pretty much a tight spike down. thats the day it closed at 883p and the gap created for the following day mentioned earlier by bracke.

I personally cant see it hitting 838p bwthdik! If it does i'll be topping up in readiness for early march :)

Was that the bottom ?
When I saw the share price drop below 870 I tried to buy but by then it was up.
I am 75% invested and waiting for the historic low with my last few bob.(pure greed).
Tempted but have not shorted.
Shorting the FTSE, it seems more predictable.
AS always living in hope but I would prefer luxury.

Yes you are correct. The share price dropped to 883 on the 28th.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say a drop to or close to the August low before a gap fill to 965.

I reserve the right to remove this post if it appears that I may be wrong. Us Elite Gurus are allowed to do that.
