28/1/2016 19:14 | High on my watch list this one | treeshake
28/1/2016 19:13 | No probs bracke and thanks - no more gaps to the downside!.Complete overreaction as usual. URI is cutting Capex and AHT is increasing, says it all really, URI loses market share and AHT gains.Did notice in the early hours that URI was 11% down after hours (& at open) so can anybody tell me can you can place a short before UK open? (& how?). TaDD | discodave4
28/1/2016 18:18 | Justin Jordan, of Jefferies, said: "Ashtead is differentiated from United Rentals by its minimal energy and Canada exposure."Only 2pc of Ashtead revenues come from energy, compared with 10pc for United Rentals. | kooba
28/1/2016 16:50 | ali47fish - A US competitor to Ashstead announced very poor results today... Ahstead could hence be affected so its prices has started to dropd (but who knows for sure :)... It Could drop further if US starts punishing the sector and as we know the UK hire sector is hardly been rosy either with HSS debacle etc. again suggesting Ashsteads business could be weakening...As ever DYOR. Regards, Source. | source
28/1/2016 16:49 | Gaps at 965p, 1043p and 1119p. Like bracke says, no more lower down at this level. There are some very scary ones much further down from much further back in time and I wouldnt expect them to be filled prior to those above unless e.g the UK housing bubble bursts!! | dealer1972
28/1/2016 16:46 | URI share price down 15%, AHT normally bundled with them unfortunately although AHT much stronger management, greater growth and better strategy. | dealer1972
28/1/2016 16:44 | At least it looks like there is a gap down to fill. | james97
28/1/2016 16:43 | URI say market conditions were particularly difficult in Canada. Not yet something AHT will be effected by. Obviously we have seen the share price hit before by poor trading for URI but I thought the last AHT results might have killed off the idea that our trading follows theirs. | james97
28/1/2016 16:31 | I can 't make any sense of the comments today on this board can somone explain why the share price is down by so much- please! | ali47fish
28/1/2016 16:14 | 883 is filled. I have no more gaps to the downside on my list which I started in June 2015. There may be others before that date. If I had posted last December that the share price would drop to the current level I can imagine the reception I would have got. | bracke
28/1/2016 15:27 | It would appear for the next URI results the position to take is to short AHT . I am only half joking. Cheers | 2flatpack
28/1/2016 15:21 | United Rentals down nearly 16%. | broadwood
28/1/2016 15:19 | Shorter's are at it again. Look to have been selling between 980 and 990. Maverick Capital, Ltd 0.74% ↑ 0.09% 2016-01-26 Total 3.98% Is this guy a Harry Potter fan. Cheers | 2flatpack
28/1/2016 13:54 | My master say 'Hello volsung. Do not put your meagre pittance of an allowance I give you into AHT' | volsung
28/1/2016 13:52 | CAT's results over there has seen the share price up 5pc pre market. | broadwood
28/1/2016 13:10 | Disco Thanks for the Abrams post. I re-checked my paperwork and found it. And now to the share price .... Gap at 908 filled. I have only one more gap to the downside at 883. The Chart I have posted about Pitchforks and Median lines (ML) previously. The ML I am following coincides with the August low and the share price remains on track to reach that zone. | bracke
28/1/2016 12:22 | An opportunity too good to miss? Well, I hope so, because I have just bought a few more at 900.78p, based on the companies hitherto sound fundamentals. | ianwwwhite
28/1/2016 11:10 | Ashtead (LON:AHT), down 6% at 907p. The equipment hire firm, which makes most of its money in America, was the FTSE 100’s worst performer after US rival United Rentals reported weak earnings | broadwood
28/1/2016 10:31 | Agree dcarn I think poor CAT results later may pull share price down further even though the two business are completely different. Market seems to lump all companies in the same sector together without looking at what's behind results From memory AHTs exposure to oil and gas is 2% way under URIs and building large diggers for aggregate extraction companies has little to do with Ashteads market Could be good buy opportunity later | binliners
28/1/2016 10:09 | I personally think URI are affected by Sunbelt gaining market share. Sunbelt opening 38 new sites in the last half year has to be impacting. Younger fleet, a more streamlined organisation, less resilience on Oil & Gas could all bode well for Q3’s in four weeks. | dcarn
28/1/2016 09:37 | Had a quick scan at URI results. I found it difficult to read, never mind understand. They seem to have done OK in the construction rental but the pump market has hit them, a lot of this is in Canada so the exchange rate has also hit them. The board have decided they are incompetent, so have cut capex and are using the free cash in a buy back scheme . The plant is getting older the company less efficient . They appear to be holding the door open for AHT. The conference call should be interesting. I don't think this reflects AHT's position but what the hell do I know. Cheers | 2flatpack
28/1/2016 09:32 | Ashtead is in the same sector as United rentals and same Sp movement happened when United released their results last time. IMHO, this is a buying opportunity. AHT will recover soon for a quick profit... at this price. | hjs
28/1/2016 09:30 | Whatever the immediate cause, like most long-termers here I remain optimistic with AHT. These rose-tinted lenses tell me to hold the nerve and view this as another potential buy opportunity. The main caution, just where she might dip to in the next few weeks due to external factors.Think I recall Bracke musing that the recent Sep 15 low was a possibility. Seeing where we are this morning I guess that now is more than just a possibility. Thoughts anyone? | nrc |
