Blame it on United Rentals rather lukewarm results yesterday - but much of that is oil and gas related.

Ashtead should be relatively unaffected in that particular area.

I very nearly bought after the last very positive update but somewhat relieved that I didn't.
Unless there has been a very quick turn in sentiment I am guessing that the shorters will probably start to unwind around the 900 level.

Looking at the AHT Major Investors list I see Abrams Bison Investments LLC with a 5% holding. Odd. I don't remember seeing the purchase mentioned previously.

Placed a small bet on URS,looks to be going OK so far.
If their results are good then AHT,s should be GREAT.
On the sidelines at the moment waiting for the shorters to start closing.
As always I live in hope.
Cheers

I stand to be corrected but Harris Associates are a new one on me, i don't remember them advising of a holding in the past.

Good to get some US interest, long may it continue.

We are value investors, seeking companies that we believe trade at a substantial discount to intrinsic value. We look for managers who seek to maximize the long-term value of their business for its owners.

From Bloomberg - more good news:

Purchases of new U.S. homes surged in December to the highest level in 10 months, closing out the best year for housing since 2007.

Does it make any difference to the share price - not in the slightest. Doh.

fenners you naughty ramper!

I even considered buying some on the basis of your post.....what next!!

I do have to admit that the thought of a small purchase if it reaches the August low has crossed my mind.

So we said that a 1% change in the exchange rate £/$ was worth £5m.
That was discussed (if memory serves) when rate was nearer $1.53
We are now touching $1.415 so we have a swing in our favour of near 7.5%.
So we should expect to see an annualised £37.5m profit increase albeit the debt will rise too.

If we are expecting a P/E ratio of 11.7 x next year - then that's worth a £439m increase in share value, that equates to 87p / share ........

The gap filling to the downside continues with the next one at 908.

The share price may be supported at 900 but as I posted at 51604 a visit to the August 2015 low is a fair probability.

Excerpt from Motley Fool:

By Royston Wild - Thursday, 7 January, 2016 | More on: AHTBARMG

Like BAE Systems, I believe that Ashtead Group (LSE: AHT) – which rents out power generators for a broad range of industrial and construction purposes – is on course to deliver stunning returns in the coming years.

The company advised last month that rental revenues leapt 18% between May and October, to £1.13bn, a result that propelled pre-tax profit 21% higher to £342.7m. And I expect performance to continue to impress as Ashtead’s geographical and sector diversification pays off, and its Sunbelt and A-Plant brands continue to grab market share.

The number crunchers also expect Ashtead to keep its strong growth record rolling in the 12 months to April 2016, and a predicted 24% surge leaves the business dealing on a P/E ratio of just 13.6 times. And this readout falls to 11.7 times for fiscal 2017 amid expectations of an 18% bottom line jump.

While dividend yields of 1.7% and 1.9% for 2016 and 2017, respectively, may not set hearts racing, Ashtead’s commitment to chunky payout increases warrants serious attention from long-term investors in my opinion. Indeed, the dividend is expected to leap 15% in the current period to 17.3p per share, and by an extra 13% next year to 19.9p.
