Thanks for that excellent bit of research Andyandyoj. Good finds for sharing. Reasonable to speculate, therefore that either Emirates will look to buy our planes at the end of the lease contract or extend the leases. We win either way and the share price should respond. Nice.

Sorry for spamming but quite nice here

“ Pratt & Whitney, an RTX (NYSE:RTX) business, has signed a 10-year agreement with Emirates to maintain and support the airline's 116 PW980 auxiliary power units (APUs) on its Airbus A380 aircraft.” that’s through to 2033!

“While a few of the A380s have been withdrawn from the fleet, Emirates president Tim Clark says he is committed to “keep them going as long as possible”.

“We have to keep a careful eye on [the supply chain], so we’re cannibalising some of the early aircraft and storing the parts,” he said, speaking during the Dubai air show.

“We’ll try to keep 116 going for as long as we can. Back-end of the next decade, it’ll drop to 90.”

116 aircraft wheel sets will be maintained. This seems to me to coincide with their total fleet size (implying all current aircraft will fly). And this is to extend life as long as possible

FROM THE FT today: Demand for the industry's biggest jets is soaring after a prolonged downturn following the coronavirus pandemic, which severely dented long-haul travel. Much of the demand is expected to be driven by Middle Eastern airlines over the next two decades. Boeing is forecasting that wide-body aeroplanes for long-haul travel will make up 45 per cent of deliveries to the region over the next 20 years - the highest regional percentage worldwide - as it expands into an international transit hub.

Emirates have been extending the leases for 777-200s so there is a probability down the line that the 777-300s will be extended as well.

Airlines - despite the economic situation - are now picking up strongly,
however for flyers also fares have got much stronger too.
Lets hope that AA4 shares start to fly.

I flew Emirates from Newcastle to Bangkok a few years ago. There was a layover in Dubai and the Dubai to BGK was on an A380. It was a weird feeling taking off. It seemed to just be trundling along the runway then we were up. So smooth. Great Emirates service on board

I flew from Heathrow to Hong Kong with Cathie Pacific on a A380 some years ago and it was the best flight I ever had - very smooth like a dream flight. I would recommend them. Good to see the share price has recovered a bit last week.

On the comments that eeza made earlier maybe one should sell the day before it goes ex dividend and then buy back later, if afterwards the share price falls more that the ex dividend itself, especially if too much dividends then attracts tax to pay. Although it could all be marginal.

mrf - well anywhere via Dubai, both BA and Emirates. Both BA and Singapore fly to Singapore using it, though BA may have stopped now. I've seen the Singapore in the air recently. BA tend to use for North American routes, so Dallas, NY, Vancouver, LA, San Francisco, Miami, Washington, some of which are seasonal. Lufthansa certainly used to fly it on their Houston route as it annoyingly arrived just before the BA afternoon flight, but I think they have retired them even after the pandemic - though whether that is still the case I don't know. BA fly to Johannesburg and it is one of the cheaper routes.

Use with a flight number and date to get the aircraft type.

edit - Lufthansa have brough A380s back - not surprising with the fairs on North American routes at this time:

edit - Emirates have 3x A380 flights from Manchester if that is more convenient, and they also use them to Gatwick. Qatar use them on both London and Sydney / Melbourne, though I'd argue 10 days is too short for the antipodes.

edit - full list of A380 routes for August 2023. The future will be different though:

A380 has been and still is extremely popular amongst the frequent flyers Don't think that has gone unnoticed by the airlines

I think Emirates has a few routes that are likely to remain unique to its market, so the A380 makes good sense. Its also seeing an ever increasing clientele who are willing to pay a premium for their tickets giving the A380 some interesting choices to Airlines who would normally never consider one. Its fair to say, those that are left have their place in the market, thank christ too !
