21/10/2005 19:36 | Anyone got an opinion on the comparitive valuation of Mears and Connaught. Seems to me Mears is expensive but longer term better value than CNT. | ![]() mickconn11
21/10/2005 15:36 | Incidentally. What are the FIRST WORDS uttered by a graduate to his first client? 'Is that with fries, or without, Sir' | deehill
21/10/2005 15:34 | I am told that the assessment is pretty extensive and that it also projects around seven year ahead - at which point Numis seem to expect a price of around £8.00. Get yourself onto the life support machine, Tinker. Its worth staying alive. Now. If only I could get someone to buy some futures from me I could give up treating the addicts of this world and enjoy life. | deehill
21/10/2005 13:45 | If you go back to September (Post 361) you'll see that Numis produced a report on the sector and said: "Numis has forecasted extraordinary growth in the social housing sector in its new report, which it believes is ripe for consolidation." Apart from the lousy grammar (probably written by a graduate with a first in English), they're either really keen, know something we don't or the Citywire article has a miscolkulation. Personally I'd be happy with 447p | tinker
21/10/2005 10:52 | Has anyone reconfirmed the 448p suggested by Numis AND is there any indication of what time period is being suggested? I am bullish but I aint foolish and this seems a tad over the top on current estimates. My ultra cautious American diviner of the tea cups has not exceeded 320p (he even lowered his figure to 312, then raised it again on the annual meeting) but 448 is nearly 25% in excess of even his figure. What do Numis know that we mere mortals dont - or is it a misprint? | deehill
20/10/2005 22:01 | cheers bill | ![]() cambium
20/10/2005 21:38 | Numis has a BUY rating and 448p price target for Mears Group. That's a very healthy premium to the current price. | billfisher98
19/10/2005 22:17 | Everything's dropped. No panic. Wall Street ended up so should bounce back tomorrow. | tinker
19/10/2005 12:23 | Any views on todays drop of 3%? | ![]() newby to all this
19/10/2005 09:34 | Tinker. Told you some time ago - Nicaragua -land of cheap prices and bribable officials. | deehill
18/10/2005 12:56 | Thanks Tinker, I'll have a look. | ![]() johnrxx99

18/10/2005 11:09 | deehill where do you live now? BTW I've used my ill gotten gains from Nat. Grid Transco to buy into Supporta at 78.5 and Wyatt at 22. So Bob Holt really works for me now! Thanks for the research. | tinker
18/10/2005 11:07 | Tinker - snobbishness on our part I meant! Wouldn't mind a look at the details - do you have a hotmail address I could email? Sorry to others. | ![]() johnrxx99
18/10/2005 10:10 | During the 'Golden' Thatcher years, I worked in the States. Frequently visiting the U.K. by way of business I was ALWAYS struck by the dournes and hostility of the British (and I'm one of them). Having travelled the length and breadth of the USA I have NEVER , there, encountered the hostility you experience when you walk into the average British pub, as a stranger. It also extends to daily life. For some reason the Brits have a grudge against the world. With a Prime Minister like Bliar, they have some reason. | deehill
17/10/2005 17:39 | deehill you might like to pop over to the WYT thread when you've a minute. johnrxxx99 snobishness! how dare you? We have Hugo Boss, Roger Moore, Sam Allardice and many other distinguished people as 'neighbours' out here in Moraira. You need to note that not all Costa resorts are like Benidorm or Torrevieca. I admit you'll find as many European ex pats as Spanish on the coast so it's not 'the real Spain' but 20 minutes inland is, so it's a short drive. If you ever want to sample it we have a fully equipped studio apartment for two down by the pool which we let out - sorry ADVFN - end of advert! | tinker
17/10/2005 14:00 | Thanks for that Tinker. I was a bit suprise as prices as they aren't a lot less than where we live in the UK but I'm comparing with a city so the Spanish countryside must be a lot easier. Most impressed with the people and customs. Having been to many places in the world, we were always put off Spain because of the Costas, snobbishness I suspect, but have been well impressed by the real Spain (previolsy been to Madrid and Barcelona but not really representative of the country). Good luck with MER> I'm in INSP and impressed by MER's chart. I try to be a Jim Slater type stocks and will \monitor. | ![]() johnrxx99
17/10/2005 13:19 | Johnrxxx99 I don't want to fall into the trap of saying everything in the UK is rubbish and I suspect that while it has changed a lot some of the 'changes' are down to me living out here in Spain for 3 years, i.e. they were already happening but I'd forgotten about them until I went back. Bear in mind however that we do get the English papers out here and Sky so I'm not out of touch. Right in addition to deehill's political comments which I largely endorse: Everyone seems to be in a mad hurry, cars drive too fast and drivers are impatient. Not many happy smiling faces around especially in town centres. I didn't feel very safe walking around town centres either. Shops and supermarkets are noticeably bigger than 3 years ago and very impersonal. I know virtually everyone at my local supermarket out here from the checkout girls to the security guy and they all make eye contact with you and say 'Hola' - you tend to shop a little every day whereas in the UK it looked like they were preparing for a siege and the ambience was very American. Prices are ridiculous. The same bottle of wine is 3 times dearer in the UK. petrol is dearer. My 'council tax' for a detached villa with pool is an eigth of that for a similar house in the UK. I suppose to be honest, after 3 years it doesn't feel like home anymore. Granada, as you know, is busy but compact. It's bound to be less personal than where I live on the Costa Blanca but not as impersonal as most UK cities. Hope this answers your question. | tinker
17/10/2005 12:31 | Tinker - OT I'm afraid but what did you notice that has changed in the UK? I have just spent a week in Granada and was most impressed so it would be interesting to get your view. | ![]() johnrxx99
16/10/2005 10:48 | Tinker. Think you made the A1 decision regarding a return to the U.K. I think that the actual inhabitants dont see, or naote, the changes to their country and, thus, it is only the visitors who are taken aback by the changes - all for the worse. Bad and corrupt as Spain may be, its a quantifiable problem and provided that you have the potential to be as venal and bad as them, you can live with it. I wouldnt go so far as to say that its a disease of the Catholic faith but I dont know a Catholic country that doesnt have the ability to cheat, lie and steal with the best of them....and that includes Ireland. As to the U.K. with its Globe trotting leader why, its a sad imitation of its former self. Trouble is that the Brits never really believed that their country was as corrupt as all the others. To find that their Leaders and Police Chiefs lie and steal, just like all the others, is a sad shock. Its called REALITY. Good luck with the Investments. I am just in the process of getting out of all my American committments. Have disposed of Land and Properties and will be converting to another currency shortly, so I will be looking for a new home for the money. Keep in touch. | deehill
15/10/2005 17:59 | Hi deehill - no back in Spain. Went over to the UK in September on business but changed my mind about living there. It seems to have changed for the worse in the 3 years I have been out here and they're arn't many smiling faces. The cost of property & living is much higher than here although Spain ain't cheap anymore. Plus I can do my work from out here thanks to the good old internet and broadband. Thanks for your comments, much appreciated. I know very little about Inspace and Connaught although the former seems to be a low activity stock, plenty of flat lines on the graph. Wyatt looked horrendous but from what you say the upside potential is tempting. And then there's Mears . . . I've just had a special dividend from National Grid Transco and now want to unload the stock so I'm looking for a new home for the proceeds. Should keep me busy next week. | tinker
15/10/2005 12:59 | Hi Tinker - are you back in the U.K. or was it all a storm in a teacup? I am a compulsive buyer of Mears on the downturns but will buy some Inspace, as and when the price cools down. Connaught I never have liked, in spite of the constant puffs. Something dark lurks in that company. I'm bit in both Wyatt and Supporta. I expect at least 100p from Supporta and, surprisingly - following its current showing - around the 80p from Wyatt. Delay there has been due to the incompetent U.K. Government not passing the new fire regulations on time. As and when the thing become operative there is going to be such a ground surge to acquire the Wyatt advice that it will put the recent panic over the licensing laws to shame. Fortunately Supporta has paid for my Wyatt paper losses but things are about to change. Remember. There are THREE Mears directors on the Wyatt board and they aint there for fun. | deehill
14/10/2005 17:11 | deehill If you had cash to spare, would you buy more Mears or spread it between Inspace and Connaught (not to mention Supporta . . . and definitely not to mention Wyatt! Just curious. | tinker
14/10/2005 10:38 | in the market for 250/- Mears. Showing your age a bit there Deehill - LOL :o) | ![]() cambium |
