22/9/2005 10:31 | Watch this space. The time is coming when it might be worth salting a few more of this wonder stock away. Did anyone notice the intention, in future, to ensure that all Local Government contracts were initially conducted on the Internet. This, the Times believes, could result in many smaller operations opting out of bidding and, thus, LEAVING MORE FOR THE BIG BOYS LIKE MEARS. I trust that some of you followed me into SUPPORTA. The story is looking better and better. Already 80 they could well enter 2006 at over the 100 mark. | deehill
16/9/2005 13:23 | sorry about this ....just a quick note.... tried to buy TPA shares online.... this is looking very good!! keep TPA on your radar too... Director bought 800,000 shares and graph promises 100% on the upside Could be another quick buck here! Just check it out!! :) | morjarias
07/9/2005 08:47 | I suppose you can treat all three as a subsector and by buying them all to some extent you are spreading the risk rather than putting all your eggs in the Mears basket. It's certainly proving to be an exciting-boring area of business. | tinker
06/9/2005 20:15 | Any thoughts on Connaught. CNT. Same sort of business. Thanks. Mick. | ![]() mickconn11
06/9/2005 16:42 | Answer: Wish you'd mentioned this a couple of weeks ago! Does look like another MER at first glance. Difficult to make realistic comparisons as not much data available since flotation but do like the forward order book (sounds familiar). The question is does it look good value after recent surge in price. Expect short term profit taking. But well worth watching. | tinker
06/9/2005 11:16 | Question. Is there any one of you out there prepared to comment on a stock called Inspace (similar business to Mears)?. | deehill
03/9/2005 13:30 | Fortunately there is normally always a ready buyer for any large line on offer. | deehill
02/9/2005 17:25 | Price up slightly on after v.big sales today. Shows how solid this is at present. | ![]() newby to all this
01/9/2005 10:52 | Regrettably, having had a peak, we are now due for a trough. I know, hosede, the last tranche I bought cost me 170p and I thought long and hard (still left my average at 38p) but the buy has been fully justified. This one still has a long road to go and you may sink into a happy retirement without financial care. | deehill
31/8/2005 19:54 | I suppose a bit of profit taking was inevitable even after these superb results. I really ought to add at some point, but having bought in originally at 29p it's emotionally quite difficult to fork out nearly ten times as much - but I'm certainly not selling!! | ![]() hosede
30/8/2005 12:32 | Missed his shining face...but was told he did well. So CNBC are taking note of the 'tiddlers' as well they should when they produce THIS sort of result. | deehill

30/8/2005 10:35 | We should offer our thanks and congratulations to the board of Mears and to their entire staff. My God, if England were run as efficiently as Mears we would be the OWNERS of the Common Market rather than embroiled in its clutches. | deehill
30/8/2005 10:18 | mer, has anounced good results. technically has broken out. note the rising indicators, but volume is lacking! Social housing maintenance specialist Mears reported profit before taxation and goodwill amortisation of £4.6m, a 41.8% increase, in the half-year to June. The interim dividend goes up by 40%. 30/8/2005 09:13 | Excellent results yet again. They never ever fail, every 6 months the ride continues apace. How many other companies can boast vastly increased figures every time they report? Prospects remain excellent. No matter when you retire this one is for keeps. Ive said it many times but it does not hurt to remind every now and again. Don't sell until you really need to, this one is for keeping way back in the bottom draw. What will they be worth in five years let alone 17.......... Regards to all. | popout

30/8/2005 08:04 | Mears Group PLC said the outlook for the group is "excellent" after it unveiled a profit before tax and goodwill for the half year to June 30 2005 of 4.6 mln stg, up from 3.2 mln a year earlier and ahead of forecast profit of 4.3 mln. After goodwill, the social housing group made a pretax profit of 4.3 mln stg, up from 2.9 mln. The group said the visibility of earnings continues to improve. Some 220 mln stg of new work was secured in the first half year from eight customers. The board said Mears' order book now stands at 960 mln stg. The element of market forecast turnover secured for 2006 is 72 pct, with some 62 pct of 2007. Given the current bid pipeline of 645 mln stg and ther prequalification pipeline of 1,453 mln stg, the board said it is confident that the social housing marketplace and the recent developments within it offer the group significant opportunities for growth. "Our market prospects and overall business outlook are excellent and we remain confident that we have the right people, the right approach and a tremendous opportunity to reinforce our position as market leader in the social housing sector." | ![]() cambium
27/8/2005 11:36 | Well. Sometime I gave the opinion of an American analyst with whom I do busines and who I persuaded to have a look at Mears. In Jan 05 his opinion was 320p BEFORE Xmas 2005. Unfortunately, for what reason I dont know, he amended that to 312p BUT his updated forecast is between 320 and 340p by February 2006. This man has made me a tidy penny in the States and finds Mears a 'unique' stock | deehill
26/8/2005 19:52 | Interesting to note that cccording to Citywire, two brokers (Numis & Arbuthnot Securities) have just issued buy notes for Mears. The former has a target price of 299p. Roll on tuesday............. | popout

26/8/2005 11:55 | Today's Investors Chronicle cover feature - Get Rich Slow GARP (Growth at A Reasonable Price) screen candidates - lists Mears as one of 5 - see page 15 "The other four stocks fall into one of two categories: fast growing companies with higher risk, or slower growth firms of more interest to cautious investors. Social housing specialist Mears and mobile phone content outfit Stream fall into the first category. There is no question about their growth credentials, but a more cautious, value-oriented investor might balk at paying 19 times forward earnings. Also, the asset backing of both firms is a bit weak, and Mears' net margin - at just 4.34 per cent - looks vulnerable (check its latest results, due out 30 August)." | ![]() mdrans1
26/8/2005 11:54 | Still going and imo more to come prior to and after the results | ![]() blindfaith2 |
