600,000 gone thru at 239p when quote was 232/235
Looks like the MMs took the opportunity to offload on the back of London bombings.
Trouble is there isnt nobody selling.
Now they may be quite short of stock, so any buy volume should send it up quite quickly.

gsw. I will say one thing further -now having put away my little stache in this company. I persuaded him to look at Wyatt (another Holt company) He was reluctant since this one is a tiddler BUT, being American, he has seen 'group' companies(i.e. a dynamic individual juggling three or more companies) before. There are a number of rumors swirling around Wyatt- none of which I would be able to discuss with any validity- but they seem sufficiently well centered as to be, at least, strong possibilities. If ONE of these came off we might see a price exceeding 100p. Its a gamble but with a man running it with a great pedigree. With the money I have made on the same Gentleman I am prepared to give Wyatt a whirl!!!

I pay a considerable amount yearly for this individual's opinions and he has been MOST impressive on a number of US stocks. Partially at my insistence, he has now ventured into an opinion on a few UK ones also, it enables him to travel to the UK on expenses!!. He is VERY impressed with Mr Holt but I have to say that I am not yet as certain of his surefootedness in the matter of UK stocks - until proven. Mears might be the acid test. Until then I intend to get what I pay for and keep him to myself.

deehill where does this American view come from please?

With the stock overhang out of the way and the strong possibility of further orders being announced, it now seems possible that the American suggestion of a price around the 312p mark 'by year end' need not, now, be as outrageous as at first it seemed. I am beginning to like this American view. Lets face it 'they aint never seen a stock like this before' having no such animal in their own stables.

A colleague asked me recently whether I could project four years forward when, according to him, we could well have a change of Government (and thus a change of direction in money priorities). Its a valid question and one which should be asked but not, apparently, of persons like myself - since I cannot even see a potential change of Government, even in four years. Assuming this crowd of deadbeats keeptheir act reasonably clean (which may not be easy) I can see an increasingly bored electorate just dangling success in front of the Tories and, then, withdrawing it. But WHAT DOES HAPPEN WHEN THE GRAVY TRAIN IS DERAILED ? Answers of a reasonable nature should be welcome on this strand.

the Americans have come out with yet another 'valuation', this time slightly down on their previous (340P) @ 313p. they say its taking longer to grind in the new decorating service, which will be a great asset but not, apparently, just yet. Incidentally, there are rumors that Mears might launch this service as an offer to the public i.e. 'we will decorate your house for peanuts - if we are in the locality' After all, they are in a hell of a lot of 'localities' now.

I notice the MER long term graph has a definite pattern to it. If it is to perpetuate the profile of the last couple of years then a surge can be expect here taking it up to between 240 and 245 in the next say 21 days, interesting to see if this happens !

LONDON (AFX) - Housing maintenance company Mears Group PLC's current trading
is at the top end of market expectations, chairman Bob Holt said in a statement
to be issued at today's annual meeting.
He also announced the appointment of Stuart Black as chief executive. Holt
will remain executive chairman.
"I am pleased to report a strong four months performance and continuing
buoyant trading conditions," Holt said. "Present indications are that we are at
the top end of current market expectations."
Holt said recent tender successes have boosted the company's order book to
more than 900 mln stg. Mears is currently working on bids worth 700 mln.
"We continue to generate cash from our operations and whilst the sector
reports margin pressure, we are experiencing improved margins from operating
efficiencies," Holt said.

15/16 looks a little high to me from what I have seen, it may be nearer to a dozen.

They say they have no direct acquisition aspirations yet are netting approx. £9M from this placing which is a lot of cash to sit on and do nothing with. Either there are a lot of debts to pay off or they are targeting some large contracts that will require a lot of working capital.

Mr Holt may well be non to pleased to see this lot promoted to DIV. 1

After digging into Inspace it is not possible to value it clearly because there are no earnings forecasts available. I think after 4 to 6 weeks brokers can release forecasts.

The recent growth is impressive but I am nervous that they have a division that does office fit outs, which is a tough market to make good money in.

I think they are on a standing P/E of around 15/16.

simon g - it looks as if the Mears crowd are buying into InSpace as the price is moving quickly upwards. I guess Mears can't do all the work and there is going to be plenty of that arround until 2009 so the oppertunity is there, whether InSpace are the one, who knows but it will be interesting to watch.
