22/11/2016 10:16 | Compass reported this morning, looked all right to me with the dividend up nearly 8% so what did it do? Fell over 3%. Typical. DF | deanforester
22/11/2016 10:00 | Looks like Scotland was very cold again. 22/11/2016 09:15 | I've got a few of his early albums - Every Picture tells a Story and the like, but with a couple of exceptions, he went down hill @1975 (sailing) :-) I don't know if you use , they are offering up to 5.5% cashback at Currys - if you don't use it but want to sign up - let me know as I think there is an introductory reward of £7.50 or similar. Also often have some good offers. | skinny
22/11/2016 09:06 | Skinny, a colleague went along to see Rod Stewart at the Rose Bowl (sorry it's Ageas Bowl now) and reckoned he was brilliant. I've never seen him live although must admit I like quite a bit of his music and have some vinyl LP's somewhere! As for the tv, I may go for that 50" with the sound bar but it might mean a change around as the current 37" sits on a mahogany cabinet and I don't think this one would fit! Good day for the SIPP so far with DX. leading the way. | mrphil
22/11/2016 08:39 | Morning. Garden rain guage is showing 1.5 inches from storm 'Angus' Tonights home League 2 fixture could be in doubt if any further rain falls the like of yesterday. Just light rain falling now, but the Meadow Lane Ground drainage is not assisted. Folio holding CSN reportedly looking to tap shareholders for cash to pay for L&G Dutch arm, which presents me with another headache similiar to the PHNX fundraising as an ISA holding as well. | blueliner
22/11/2016 08:22 | Great to see confirmation of the contract for DX. and good to see the utilities recovering too. Looking promising so far :-) | mrphil
22/11/2016 08:16 | Morning All. Aleman, Fullers figures seemed OK too, not that you would know it from the sp! We've had a lot of rain around here in milder temperatures. A high of 11.6°C yesterday and still windy (a dustcart got blown over and blocked the M27) and a low last night of 9.1°C I see the M27 Westbound is completely stopped again as I type, but that's not unusual at this time of the morning. Very helpful they are building more houses on every bit a green space around here, we really need more people and cars in one place! | mrphil
22/11/2016 07:58 | Good morning, all. Bit milder last might ... but still raining. I wonder where the flooding will be. Local news said flood alarms had gone off in some Pennine towns yesterday evening. Mitchells and Butlers showed a very slight improvement in sales in the last couple of months. That's one that would normally drop off when goung into recession, so news still seems oddly mixed. | aleman
21/11/2016 17:25 | Skinny, I'm not well up on these things but what am I missing with this one which seems to be about half the price of others which are similar? | mrphil
21/11/2016 17:21 | Skinny, can't you use Rawlbolts? I'm down -0.151% on the day today (FTSE100 up +0.032%). Worst falls: TW. -1.70%, BLND -1.41% and VOD -1.34%. Best rises: PSON +2.48%, BP. +1.952% and RDSB +1.47%. Miners and oils had a good day. Builders and property did not. Showery today. I had a couple of meetings with an access platform company on behalf of the Church, with a view to using a cherry picker to change light bulbs. Possible, but pews need to be removed. Anyway a quote will be on its way to the churchwarden. CPG report finals tomorrow. DF | deanforester
21/11/2016 17:16 | +1.2%. 11% at DX. was the main contributor. The stronger £ didn't hold me back, today. Maybe that will feed in tomorrow. +6.0C. Very grey, wet and windy. Just had a bright flash and loud thunderclap. | aleman
21/11/2016 17:12 | Thanks MrP - still not sure what bolt/option to use!!! This is on my - I'm just waiting for it to drop to about £750 :-) | skinny
21/11/2016 17:10 | Interesting, Skinny. 20C above average at 90N and 20C below average in Siberia. Of course the two do not balance because there is more energy per degree as temperatures rise and water vapour increases. Nobody ever seems to account for energy, which is what they should be measuring. 0.1C higher at the equator could be a lot more energy than 1.0C at the poles - but the poles would skew the temperature average higher. It's a touch cooler at the equator now La Nina has taken over. The NW passage was open a long time this year, which gets reported, but the NE passage shut up shop early, which doesn't. Also sea and land ice levels bottomed early at low levels this year but rose quickly from there because land snow cover advanced very quickly while sea ice lingered. Total sea and land cover was above average at the end of October, and remember all those scare stories about albedo (reflecting sunlight back into space) - more overall cover thanks to very high Eurasian snow extent means more cooling. As usual, they did not predict this strange weather and are cherry-picking what to report. The Arctic has undoubtedly warmed since the 70s (which were a cold spell) but the North pole has been ice free before, in the 30s, and ice depletion is now showing some signs of hesitating. And the Antartic has tended to cool during that period - but what does that man for total ENERGY? Nobody knows. | aleman
21/11/2016 17:04 | Good luck with it Skinny! All was looking good for the SIPP after DX. big rise today but it slipped back slightly and couldn't quite compete with a number of fallers. Down -0.04% CTO, AV. & ALD doing the damage Might have a look at new TV's on the way home, then probably off in the shed for a bit more woodturning, but maybe with the heater on! | mrphil
21/11/2016 16:45 | MrP - I've looked at those (and similar) as that's the obvious solution - but I can't bolt the bracket down - so I'm a bit concerned at the strength of the mount if I screw it down - this was meant to be a nice simple job! On edit - I've just had another look by torch light and I may well be able to bolt them down. My SIPP finished down £96.54. | skinny
21/11/2016 16:36 | Skinny, couldn't you just bolt these to the concrete foundations | mrphil
21/11/2016 16:17 | May be of interest Aleman - | skinny
21/11/2016 15:47 | Just started digging to put in fence posts and discovered whoever built the 4' single course wall - in front of which I want to put the posst, built it on bigger foundations than the house!! I now have a dilemma! | skinny
21/11/2016 14:07 | No, MrP. Still have them. It seems a quiet day apart from them. Got drenched doing the weekly shop. 5C. Lovely. | aleman
21/11/2016 10:18 | Hope you didn't sell your DX. before this morning's rise Aleman?! | mrphil
21/11/2016 09:51 | Sleeting earlier, now rain. I'm surprised we have not had a proper snow given the moisture and cold temperatures in the last few weeks. It's always chuffing miserable sleet. Risen to 3.5C now. | aleman
21/11/2016 09:33 | Profit warning from Essentra is worrying. This mid-cap sells filter anf foam producs to a wide rage of industries around the world. It's shares are down 20%. MITIE interims not going down too well. Down 10%. I note the rise in pension deficit. A few companies have reported significantly rising pension deficits due to rising bond yields. Be wary of companies carrying such deficits. I'm still baffled as to how ECP can be trading so well when Essentra can be doing so badly. Can it be just be company specific? Tread warily. I think this is a dangerous market. Increasing uncertainty and mixed results could lead to a sudden reanalysis of where we are headed. | aleman
21/11/2016 08:41 | Morning All. Skinny, I wonder if there will be announcement from Sturgeon that she intends to remove Murray's "Britishness"! | mrphil |
