Two extracts from Royal Mail results:

Marketing mail revenue was down eight per cent. Uncertainty leading up to and after the EU Referendum led to a reduction in overall UK marketing activity.

Letter volumes, particularly advertising letter volumes, are linked to movements in GDP and we are monitoring developments in the UK economy closely.

So ... just a blip?

-0.2% for me yesterday.

The short feverish spell has cleared after a week of cold but 3 of us still have lingering gastric issues. I'm told the doc's says for people with sickness and runs not to go to their doctor The system needs chnging when doc's say stay away because you are ill. Maybe the clinic needs splitting into into sick, old and healthy areas or days.

Good luck with the foot, bl.

blueliner, it's frustrating when you damage something else by trying to solve a problem! Hope it gets better soon.

-0.64% for the Folio [FTSE250 -0.56%].

Worst value fallers : IAP -10.6%, IRV -7.5%, CLIG -6%, CSN -2.5%, MCL -5.4%.

Highest value risers : IGR +3.7%, KNOS +5.8%, HMLH +3.3%, ASY +2.9%, HSD +1.9%.

Some hefty falls again, IAP coming off badly after results, but the smaller caps helped for once.

Physio confirms that I have strained tendons on my right foot by overdoing an exercise to help the heel pain I was suffering with [now better]. She doesn't advise long walks for the present as there is some swelling that needs to disperse.

I'm down -0.617% on the day today (FTSE100 -0.633%).

Worst falls: S32 -2.36%, BLND -2.31% and CLLN -2.19%.

Best rises: TATE +1.34%, INDV +1.18% and DGE +0.75%.

Predictably BLND fell after decent results. It seems to be normal these days. Wall Street had an immediate big fall when it opened, which must have some effect. IMB and MKS go XD tomorrow.

I went for a haircut this morning, but the barbers was closed. Maybe next week.

The early rain had moved away before I went out this morning, +10°C then and back there now.

Why on earth did BBC have Hammond & May on The One Show to promote their new Amazon series?

Looking forward to the next episode of The Missing tonight!

Mozy has raised the very interesting issue of rising bond yields and the problem Trump may have, on paying the interest on same.

As I mentioned in my first post after Trump had won the Presidential vote, the thing to do is remove the monopoly the Federal Reserve bank has over the issue of new Dollars.
At the present the FED has a monopoly over the issue of dollars so that when the US govt wants dollars it has to pay interest on them to the FED which is a private bank.
Since the FED has printed those dollars effectively just contacting the US mint and telling them to print some more dollars, it is earning interest on Sweet FA.

As I said in my previous post what Trump needs to do is remove the the FEDs monopoly to issue dollars and take that under govt control.
The last President to try this was Kennedy and he was assinated shortly after putting the appropriate legislation to congress. This is not to suggest the two are linked just that the coincidence resulted in that piece of legislation not getting passed.

Of course no govt should ever resort to the printing press in a profligate way, however if the economy is otherwise demand deficient and there is spare capacity in the economy to take up the slack, considerd and limited printing should produce no inflationary problem.

Have registered with Jaguar to receive updates on the I-PACE which I think looks stunning. It will be an awful lot of money for a car which I really couldn't justify, but I have to say I am really tempted! Compared to a boat it's a real bargain!

Morning.

IRV continues to take a pasting for the Folio, the historic yield sub 300p was over 8%, we are there again this morning.

Not tempted to add anymore as already fully invested and the latest sequence of RNS's all in a matter of 48 hours highs & lows are cause for concern.

Clear and sunny for once 9-11C.

Morning All.

A balm,y 15.6°C yesterday with the sun trying hard to peep through a few times. Only dropped to 12.6°C last night but I gather we have another cold spell coming?

FUM still making positive progress with their trials I see.

EDIT: Looks like I was too quick jumping in for some Euros late yesterday!

I'm up +0.734% on the day today (FTSE100 +0.586%).

Best rises: TSCO +5.42%, BLND +3.23% and RDSB +2.92%.

Worst falls: BLT -+4.86%, RIO -4.50% and S32 -4.37%.

Apart for Tesco, which continues on its merry way, a volte face today, with the miners coming under the cosh. Interesting that LLOY has risen close to my now break even point, about 64p. I suspect that HMG may well be buying more back soon at this rate.

+10°C this morning with a layer of cloud, which broke up later. I had a coffee morning to organise and spent some time outside in the sun, trying to seduce passers-by into the hall. Not a lot of success, because they seemed to be mostly heading for the station or walking their dog. However I did find one lady who is a carer for her husband, and I think we may have helped her a lot.

A reversal of yesterday for the SIPP with a gain of +0.54% on the day thanks to top risers BP., UU. & LLOY after the other utilities gave up earlier gains. The pot managed +0.56% thanks to LLOY, RDSB & SGC

Tennis Club AGM this evening. Thought we ought to go as the committee are getting concerned about member numbers which I guess must be putting a strain on finances. We pay our £40 each per year which I think is actually ridiculously low as we get to play at least once a week. OK it's outside courts with no floodlighting but I reckon we only get totally rained off once or twice a year as the courts are excellent and drain really quickly so you can hide under the trees during showers and play virtually immediately the rain stops.

Hope to be back in time for Ordinary Lies, but we'll record it just in case.

Aleman, hope the colds go away soon! The granddaughter has a cough which I now have a touch of, but we do teach them to share!

+0.7%.

Cloudy damp day. Temperature gradually eased from last night's 14.2C high to just under 10C now.

Struggling with a cold that has been developing for a week. Aching, dizzy, nauseous, exhausted. Paracetomol not helping. Can't go to bed until Mrs A gets home. 2 of the 3 rugrats ill as well, after No,2 got sent home at lunchtime on Monday for coughing until he was sick, which repeated yesterday but, thankfully, not today.. I hope tomorrow is better.

CPI fell to 0.9% in October (from September's 1.0%) so that is a slight relief. Both RPI and CPI look like peaking at 3% or so in January. That is less than I had feared a few months ago, helped by the oil price falling back, although it still looks set to remain above the 2% target for a while and could be vulnerable to any oil price strength. (Those in the trade seem to think the sustainable price should be nearer $60.).

We did just about manage a low last night. We saw a high of 13.2° yesterday and a low of 11.8°C last night.

Prices must be starting to rise by now I would have thought?
