Also not far away (if negotiations proved agreeable) is the announcement of two mobile phone companies as buyers of space on Hylas-1

But to lift the share price strongly they need to be household names not obscure ones

A steady stream of contracts being won will continue the share price rise. I don't see any big move till the new year when we are informed that Hylas1 is now in full operation. That is not far away

alot of those campervans have roof installed dishes and are programmed to rotate automatically to seek out a satellite signal

You have to be in the satellite's footprint, Flinnyourin, which in the case of Hylas 1 is most of Western Europe and parts of Africa and the Middle East.

Geostationary orbit means the satellite stays in the same place in the sky all the time, so the US and Asia will never see it. The positioning of the satellite's antenna determine the footprint and, obviously, Hylas will be pointing at where most of Avanti's potential customers are based.

Oh right, I did hear that money transactions etc via satillite are almost impossible to interfere with or hack into and therefore much more secure than fibre or wire

So can this fixed dish be placed any where in the world or is it just certain parts of the world.

I think you'll find that you need a fixed antenna pointing in the right direction to send and receive. A bit like a sky dish. Mobile broadband is not what this is about.

The big advantage that satellite broadband has over fibre-optic/copper-wire delivery is that despite being a tad slow, it is much more secure. What big organisations are fearful of, and will pay good money to relieve their anxieties, is the failure of their broadband communication both within the organisation and between them and their customers and suppliers.

Much of Avanti's market will be about delivering a secure back-up to business and government.
Because of this they should be able to sell almost 200% of their bandwidth...since what they sell for back-up is, by definition, almost never used!

Would it be possible for subscribers to receive Avanti broadband via laptop on the move in vehicles or anywhere in Europe covered by the satellite? in which case battery power would be sufficient for those without mains power.

It is nice to see some balanced arguments for and against rather than constant disinformation , as someone mentioned T1ps growth fund which is the first or second best performing small company fund this year, has a large holding in these and still rates them yesterday as a clear buy even though they bought at a much lower price .
I also see that White Space technology which is in its infancy and unproven needs groups of isolated communities to act as routers with the need of eyesore towers to be built and that the TV providers are vehemently against the usage of their channels for white space in the first place, if it ever works. Cable companies are still spending millions, perhaps those derampers concerned that this technology will also affect their sp's, better advise.

Does this help?

definition -

Wireless backhaul is the use of wireless communications systems to get data from an end user to a node in a major network such as the Internet or the proprietary network of a large business, academic institution or government agency. The term can also refer to the transmission of network data over an alternative wireless route when the normal route is unavailable or overtaxed. The most common method of wireless backhaul involves microwave systems although satellites can also be used.

As for Biz Continuity...yes, that has always excited me because it opens up the enitre biz market, not just remote residential.

"..three quarters of business respondents rely on constant internet access but one in four businesses do not include internet connectivity in their disaster recovery plans, with one in three having no back-up connection in case of failure..."

Do business insurance policies not require evidence of both data backup and connectivity backup? If not, I imagine they might soon do so - and will charge high premiums to those without it.

That is what I was talking about.....

David Williams, Chief Executive of Avanti Communications, commented: "We have high hopes for our Business Internet Continuity product since, for the first time, a satellite broadband system is potentially of use to every business in the World regardless of geography. The research we have commissioned has highlighted the significant consequences that businesses face in the event of losing an internet connection. Avanti and its partners can protect companies against those risks."

Contract Win

Avanti Communications (LSE: AVN), the broadband satellite operator, announces two contract wins.

Avanti has signed contracts with Access Intelligence PLC (AIM:ACC) and Fitzrovia IT Services for the sale of the Patented Business Internet Continuity range of products to be delivered from the newly launched HYLAS 1 satellite, Europe's first Ka Band satellite.

Avanti's Business Internet Continuity service (which has global patent protection) uses an enhanced version of its satellite broadband product to provide disaster recovery telecoms services to businesses telecom cable users. In the event that the primary cable connection is lost, the Avanti service instantly restores connectivity and IP addressing so that locally hosted or cloud applications continue to work seamlessly.

Avanti also announces the result of research into the reliance upon internet connectivity by UK and international enterprises and the costs being incurred by inadequate planning for connectivity failure.

The independent market research commissioned by Avanti Communications and carried out by Redshift Research shows that three quarters of business respondents rely on constant internet access but one in four businesses do not include internet connectivity in their disaster recovery plans, with one in three having no back-up connection in case of failure.

Commenting upon the new contract, Charles Lass, Managing Director at Access Intelligence ControlPoint, comments, "This research reaffirmed our view that if your business relies upon Cloud Computing, Business Internet Continuity is a 'must-have' service. We anticipate strong demand for the service from our customers."

Daren Oliver, Managing Director of Fitzrovia IT Limited, said, "As a company that specialises in delivering advice and solutions for Cloud Computing, Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery and Virtualisation, this new service from Avanti enables Fitzrovia to offer resilience and continuity around its internet connectivity and therefore helps Fitzrovia deliver a complete continuity of IT service around its product range."

Superg1 - no, don't leave us....your posts amuse and I will miss them. You feed us the lines and we will feed you the facts.

Four years ago you might have asked how would they ever get Hylas 2 funded when Hylas 1 wasn't yet launched. It's funded because a lot of people are behind this technology. Hylas 3 will present no funding problems, so long, of course, that Hylas 1 & 2 go smoothly.

I challenge you to do some proper research. Go read up on where the money has come from so far and report back with your findings.

I don't know why you bleat on about iii here, nobody cares.

So, you go and that research and then we can chat some more, it will be fun.
