15/12/2010 09:32 | marksnsarkle-- lets hope your right. I am in for the long term on this one! | pojscott
15/12/2010 09:30 | Peetle---thats very informed, I have learned something today--thanks for that. | pojscott
15/12/2010 09:28 | pojscott ... I bought a few more this morning ... however it now looks to me that the next main event (baring any surprises) will be the transfer of client data to the satellite in late Q1 2011 ... at which point I expect the share price to get another boost, if it hasn't already | marksnsparkle
15/12/2010 09:27 | Thanks for that informative post Peetle | yorgi
15/12/2010 09:23 | The Earth's gravitational field isn't perfect M.T.Glass, plus the influence of the Moon and the Sun cause some drift. While being up at 22K miles will give you a 24 hour orbit, satellites tend to drift and have to be nudged occasionaly to keep their station. They also have to keep pointing in the right direction so their useful life is determined by their fuel supply. The orbit is getting quite crowded too, so at the end of their life they need to have enough fuel to be pushed into a "graveyard" orbit, which is a few hundred K higher than geostationary orbit. This is a requirement of getting a slot in geostationary orbit and it would take a huge amount of fuel to de-orbit something that high up. | peetle
15/12/2010 09:19 | Seems a bit odd to me--very very good news and yet people selling and share price going down??? Do not understand! | pojscott
15/12/2010 09:17 | What will the share price be at close tonight--we could have a competition. | pojscott
15/12/2010 09:12 | "..The launch was highly efficient and as a result HYLAS 1 is expected to achieve longer useful life than planned because of fuel efficiency during transfer to geostationary orbit.." Not an important question, but just curious: How does that saved fuel extend the satellite's useful life? Is it because, over the 15 years or so, its position has to undergo minor corrections now and then - and extra fuel means they can do so a greater number of times for a year or two longer? | m.t.glass
15/12/2010 08:52 | Lots of good targets Broadwood.........ex | yorgi
15/12/2010 08:45 | Jeffries has a target price of £13.40. | broadwood
15/12/2010 07:58 | Yes Ib, its not going to be a good day over there for sure, but other than a delay nothing has changed. We had our delays but now Hylas1 is up there and talking to planet earth :-) | yorgi
15/12/2010 07:42 | Half off topic folks, but yorgi isn't it odd that here and XEL almost mirror each other although I fear at the moment AVN is ahead for a while. | ib1905
15/12/2010 07:29 | Excellent RNS, should see a good rise in the price today... | lebondy
15/12/2010 07:21 | Great RNS everything going to plan if not slightly better :-) | yorgi
15/12/2010 07:12 | "The response from our market has been excellent since the launch of HYLAS 1 and we are confident that we can achieve the targets we have set ourselves to fill HYLAS 1 within three years and, under certain conditions, could expect to do better." Roll on 2011. | restassured
15/12/2010 07:07 | I mentioned the notion of some secret squirrel/government stuff a few days ago and still think this RNS points in that direction. No matter - it is about as positive as you can get. | ib1905
15/12/2010 07:02 | HYLAS 1 Update Avanti (LSE: AVN), the broadband satellite operator, is pleased to update the market on the excellent progress made following the launch of HYLAS 1. The satellite has now had all systems turned on and all results are as planned. The satellite has reached geostationary orbit and the first transmissions have been received at Avanti's primary Gateway Earth Station in the UK. The launch was highly efficient and as a result HYLAS 1 is expected to achieve longer useful life than planned because of fuel efficiency during transfer to geostationary orbit. Avanti will now continue with a pre-service mission which is using HYLAS to demonstrate certain capabilities that are relevant to future business, and then will prepare for the launch of commercial service in Europe towards the end of calendar Q1. The response from our market has been excellent since the launch of HYLAS 1 and we are confident that we can achieve the targets we have set ourselves to fill HYLAS 1 within three years and, under certain conditions, could expect to do better. | goneawol
14/12/2010 17:47 | Let`s hope £7 is a springboard! | blue forever
14/12/2010 17:31 | Up a bit today! Could £7 be a floor? | pojscott
14/12/2010 15:19 | With regard to mobile, which I was bleating on about yesterday - I see no reason why a satellite can't deliver wireless/mobile broadband via a repeater - in the same way your wireless router at home will serve many of your neighbours if you haven't password protected it. A small village in a rural community could easily be served by single satellite this way if they can't be accessing wired comms and then an internet company will be established showing hotspots and then it will be chargeable and so on........ more money.... | ib1905
14/12/2010 13:41 | We will have to take your word for that Horneblower :-) | yorgi
14/12/2010 12:43 | Aegon have increased their holding. | julcester
14/12/2010 12:36 | 14th Dec 2010 Daniel Stewart reiterates Buy and £25.19 price target. 250% potential upside. You're welcome. | restassured
14/12/2010 12:03 | Interesting -Further support for Avanti's perception of the future has also emerged from LeWeb'10 conference in Paris where France Telecom-Orange CEO Stephane Richard talked about the need to manage the "scarce resource" of bandwidth, stating "in two years time, we think there will be ten times more data traffic in the network than today... In the face of a traffic explosion, clearly we have to be more efficient in the network management, and that will lead us to work on specific plans that will give differentiated access according to quality of service, and probably the period of time in the day or week". Avanti's backhaul capabilities help address potential mobile network bottlenecks and the clear inference is that mobile data is to become a particularly premium product because of 'scarce resource' | malcolmmm |
