To top up or not to top up? Well, I had some thoughts on ASF at Stansted Airport yesterday. The security people confiscated and binned half a little plastic bottle containing one swig of tap water that was in my hand luggage. I was sorry to lose the bottle. I think it was a French one. I tend to hang onto things. I thought 100 mls was allowed. I think ASF have acquired a device for ascertaining whether a liquid is flammable or not. I have also heard of such a device having been developed in New Zealand. But my subsequent thoughts were as follows... Nobody is going to hijack a plane with a plastic bottle and mouthful of water or even 100 mls of lighter fuel...That's not the point. It's a bit like when a policeman wants to look at your driving license, he doesn't really want to know who you are, and, as in The Big Sleep when Marlowe's licence is checked, often doesn't even know why he is doing it ....
If only the ASF could be applied everywhere (for the benefit of us punters - (whoops) and security of course!). The security staff would be empowered.... We had to take our shoes off at Stansted too and put them through a conveyor. The pragmatic Italians at the other end don't go in so much for these procedures.

Spread only really matters (imho) if you are in for the short term; I see ASF hitting an eps of around 10-12p (I know that's below Digital Look, but I would be perfectly content with that) and 15-20p next.
As such I am more than happy to hold for that period and depending on subsequent developments, review (in the absence of bear market/ repeated bad news, though i believe this is quite a good defensive stock, perhaps not quite to STT's extent but still useful) their progress and make further decisions along the line. So my current 250p target in that timeframe means that the spread does not overly worry me.
PS: Hattori you're welcome!

Blimey, I'm in profit. That spread is a killer, though.

Nice start to the day. :O)

I'm out for the day but will try to phone the house broker tomorrow to discuss forecasted EPS figures. I'd say they'd have to be redistributed but I'm interested in hearing their side.

If anyone wants to phone them today please go ahead as it's expensive enough to phone the UK from here.

It won't take a lot of buys to send this North.

Just spotted this thread (thanks to egoi) and having read the informed comments and analysis I like the look of this one. Looks like it's just my cup of tea (if a tad on the illiquid side). Off to do a bit more research.

Hi Andy. Bought these a month or so ago, and failed to top up on the dip, so I am still slightly down because of the very wide spread. They certainly look very cheap - I keep wondering what the catch is. :-)

Hadn't heard of ATCG before, but I agree they look cheap too, so I will look into them. Many thanks.

DiogenesJ,

Good to see you here. Seems our share selections often match. Have you had a look at ATCG (At communications)? If the figures are to be believed, there could well be an explosion in the share price.

Same goes tru of ASFARE of course. I am already well ahaed on this but I think there is much further to go. Ideally I am looking for around 200p before I consider selling.

Andy

Unusually strong institutional holdings for such a small company. I researched ASF last week and couldn't resist taking a small position. I also anticipate an upside surprise with half year results.
