You could not have demonstrated more clearly, if you had tried, your ignorance about how quoted companies operate.
Typically, in such a situation, the CEO would sign a compromise agreement and cease immediately to have any role in the company. His directorship would be terminated with immediate effect.
This situation is extremely unusual and just plain wrong.

The answer is fairly straightforward, surprised you show your ignorance by repeatedly asking the question.

As anybody who has ever resigned from a job will tell you, you leave the company at the end of your notice period, not before. Until then you retain all employment rights, job titles etc.

Employment law, simple as that. In this case, a dose of contractual rights is probably thrown into the mix, too.
