22/10/2019 13:57 | One of the main things that I am really pleased to see whilst quietly sat waiting for the inevitable to happen, is that awareness of graphene and its potential is being massively increased over the past few months/year. Not only to the industries that will be able to make use of it, but to the public in general. (Who knows I may soon be able to mention it in conversation and not have everyone look at me quizzically!) This is a huge sign of confidence that graphenes are about to hit the world by storm. We have passed through the infancy and teenage years and companies like Versarien are about to launch this fully grown product. It's no wonder our relatively small workforce is spread so thinly...there is going to be a huge market to fulfill..I'm not surprised that Neill said: "The worst case scenario is all of the things coming off all at the same time,” ... This is just an example of one such event. | ![]() woodpeckers
22/10/2019 13:55 | Ex Graphene Info today (Please don't throw rotten eggs at me re what constitutes proper graphene): Graphene Enters High-Volume Applications… And This Is Just The Start Dr Richard Collins, IDTechEx The following is a sponsored message by IDTechEx As is the case for many advanced materials, the expectation accelerates and fades long before a notable order appears on any manufacturers book. Graphene, the “wonder material” of the 21 st century, finally slips away from the (sometimes misleading) media spotlight just as the material steps off the testing bench and high-volume orders begin to roll in. The 14th Graphene & 2D Materials show, Nov. 20-21, Santa Clara, is a B2B conference dedicated to graphene commercialisation (www.GrapheneUSA.tec What applications are there? The large orders are diverse including thermal spreaders in smart phones and cars, battery electrode additives, anti-corrosion paints, and additives for polymeric pipelines. Lots of potential applications are also on the horizon from water filtration, thermal interface materials, lubricants, lightweight composite structures, conductive ink, and so many more. You will be able to hear from many of the key manufacturers addressing these markets with specific use-cases and world-first announcements. Is the manufacturing process and capacity established? The chicken and egg cycle of “no-scaling without orders and no-orders without demonstrated scale” is broken. Many players now have suitable capacity, and more are rapidly ramping up their capability. Despite this the manufacturing process is still not a closed book. New players continue to enter the field and propose more efficient or alternative routes. This includes electrochemical exfoliation, “unzippingR Both established players scaling up their process and new entrants will present at the event. Speakers and their presentations can be seen on the conference agenda. A keynote presentation will be given by NanoXplore, a company undergoing rapid expansion to their 10,000 tpa plant, alongside one of their notable investors and partners Martinrea International (a multi-billion dollar automotive tier 1 company). What about other types of graphene and 2D materials? The previous applications and processes are predominantly for the nanoplatelets and powders, but this is not the only positive approach for graphene. Continued innovations in CVD or “bottom-upR CVD graphene is the most advanced of these and dedicated sessions to both manufacture and applications will be on display at the show. This includes LG Electronics showcasing their vertical R2R process and Graphenea operating on the wafer-scale. Is there still a role for academia? Despite the approaching inflection point and consequent period of rapid revenue growth, there is still plenty of fundamental innovation in graphene and other 2D materials. The IDTechEx Show! is dedicated to the commercialisation of emerging technology, one session within the conference track is dedicated to academic reviews for commercial advantages. This session includes speakers from leading institutions and looks at printed electronics, silicon integration, sensing, composites, and energy storage. IDTechEx Show! USA 2019 Conference attendees get complete access to all the conference tracks and exhibition floor. The tracks are all led by IDTechEx analysts to bring you an excellent blend of technical and commercial understanding. Each conference is opened with a market overview of the topic, but for more detailed information on the market and technology masterclasses are held on the day prior and proceeding the event. For more information of the masterclasses available see: www.IDTechEx.com/USA | chumbo

22/10/2019 12:28 | As mentioned it looked pretty much written to VRS capabilities in various fronts. The Graphene Flagship is looking for a partner who has achieved all the following required items at the time of application: 10kg/month GRM production: Sustainable production of GRMs on the scale of 10 kg/month (following ISO/TS 80004-13:2017(en) material specifications for graphene flakes). The production process must be in operation commercially. Spray deposition or brush painting of GRM: GRM-based ink formulations suitable for spray deposition (preferred) or brush painting (acceptable) of coatings under standard paint shop conditions, with good adhesion on different substrates (polymers, carbon and glass fibre composites, metals); >10kW/m² heating power density for an applied voltage of for applied voltage up to 230V AC, 3-phase, or 540V DC (+/-270V) for GRM-based coating Electrical contacts: Expertise in fabricating electrical connectors (using tin based solder or similar technology) to GRM-based coatings (expertise demonstrated via publications or patents or products) Experience in heating applications and aerospace components: Demonstrated capability of integrating GRM-based heating coatings in representative aerospace components. | ![]() superg1

22/10/2019 12:23 | 19 Sep '19 - 16:07 - 78859 of 81299 Edit 0 11 2 Interesting article that, Aerospace looking for answers to problems using graphene. In that case Airbus. Vrs were with Airbus and Victrex and CALM a few years back, organised by Victrex, VRS were invited. VRS look to me like the only ones that meet the criteria. That will be another one into the pot of things going on imo. Interesting that that want 10kg per month proven supply now and evidence that 10 tonnes per year is in the pipeline. • For next-gen aircraft (A/C) components like wings, rudder, rotor blades, air inlets, antennae, windshield, new easy to integrate and flexible ice protection technologies are urgently needed; flexible relates to the ability to adapt to the requirements in terms of geometry, generated power density, and available on-board voltage supply | ![]() superg1
22/10/2019 12:22 | Hew I think VRS are involved in that or at least involved with Airbus on the same topic. I posted recently about it having found a tender document which only VRS could meet re criteria imo. What I posted, I'll try and find the document again, Airbus were involved.

22/10/2019 11:31 | I see Haydale today announced that in collab with Airbus, BAE, GE Aviation and Element Materials Technology Warwick they have produced graphene-enhanced prepreg material with improved electrical conductivity re lightning strikes. Early days, as only now looking to make a demo component as a showcase part. VRS announced MOU re Haydale back in July 2015, with 2-D Tech to supply platelets for functionalisation to Haydale. AFAIK Haydale do not make graphene – hence they get it from somewhere. Checked my notes for relevant comments by Neill. Found nothing for this year. The following from 2018. 28/3 Investors Day: Neill said Haydale actually a customer, and a supplier and a partner. Not a competitor. 25/6 Tweet re 2015 Collab ...one of our first , it was with our partners Haydale Graphene. .... spoke to Ray the other day. 14/10 Tweet re Haydale: ...another one of our collaborators.... we don't compete with each other. I’m sat on the same plane as Ray. 30/10 Tweet ... We get on well with FGR, XG Sciences and Haydale. 30/11 Tweet ...Haydale still a partner - share resources, equipment and intel. No basis for any firm conclusion, but without anything to the contrary I'm assuming our 2015 collab with Haydale is still in place. | ![]() hew
