Looks to me Peter has completed what he was set on for.
They are not going to pull him half way through.

Sorry but I can’t share posters’ unbridled enthusiasm for Yi Luo replacing Peter Jay after only 6 months. Neutral at best imo. More irrational exuberance!

Probably insignificant - but Yi Luo was on a brief placement at Unilever many years ago. It sounds like she is a less fluent mandarin speaker than Peter Jay.

I like to think Peter was broken after 6 months by the sheer number of Chinese enquiries...either that or Neills 14hr days! Definite plus being of Chinese nationality and at the forefront of technology. There must be lots in the pipeline otherwise it would have been natural point to terminate that position.

How is this good news?

Peter Jay was on secondment for a minimum of 12 months, after only working for VRS for 6 Months he has found himself a new senior role in the department.

Yi Luo is only replacing Peter.

15/08/18 - Peter Jay, Head of Policy and Governance for Outward Direct Investment at the Government's Department for International Trade ("DIT") has joined Versarien on a secondment for a minimum of 12 months. During this period he will work exclusively for Versarien and will be primarily responsible for overseeing the Company's planned expansion implementation in the role of Deputy Head of International Strategy and Government Relations

It's all 'evidence based' these days, so to get someone like yi involved is clearly a tick up for vrs - she's been matched to the burgeoning opportunity here in my view. Peter has moved up the ladder after his sterling work - says it all. And yi likely sees this as a great secondment in many ways, for vrs, uk gov, uk plc and herself. Let's not forget bruno - lining the ducks up. Grateful holder here. Aimo. Best ellis

Very good news indeed. Government support for a business they consider has great potential. As I mentioned before NR stated he is in the business of developing a ‘large’ company. Those closer to the action must be confident that a large company with the prospect of large profits is in the making and on track.

Yi Luo - Publications:

Mechanistic Insights into a BINOL-Derived Phosphoric Acid-Catalyzed Asymmetric Pictet–Spengler Reaction
Journal of Organic ChemistryFebruary 5, 2015

The reaction of tryptamine and (2-oxocyclohexyl)acetic acid can be catalyzed by 3,3′-bis(triphenylsilyl)-1,1′;-bi-2-naphthol phosphoric acid to give an asymmetric β-carboline. This reaction was first studied by Holloway et al. ( Org. Lett. 2010, 12, 4720−4723 ), but their mechanistic work did not explain the high stereoselectivity achieved. This study uses density functional theory and hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics calculations to investigate this reaction and provide a model to explain its outcome. The step leading to diastereo- and enantioselectivity is an asymmetric Pictet–Spengler reaction involving an N-acyliminium ion bound to the catalyst in a bidentate fashion. This interaction occurs via hydrogen bonds between the two terminal oxygen atoms of the catalyst phosphate group and the hydrogen atoms at N and C2 of the substrate indole group. These bonds hold the transition structure rigidly and thus allow the catalyst triphenylsilyl groups to influence the enantioselectivity.

I can't argue with that :-)

"I look forward to Versarien benefiting from Yi's skills and experience to help further progress both our existing Chinese relationships and others that we are discussing. I would again like to thank the BEIS and DIT for their support and I am confident that Versarien's plans in China and globally will contribute to DIT's goal of ensuring there is an economic benefit to the UK from our overseas activities."

It is also good to have someone like Peter, who has had the experience of working with VRS and understands their challenges and no doubt frustrations, back in the DIT in what sounds like an even more senior role in the DIT. To my mind, while not the big commercial order we are waiting for, we have just been informed of a double win in terms of government support and gained an extra Ministry in the process.
