Thanks for the info madchick, I will have a look.

The Juno graphene enhanced plane built by the UCLan surely must lead to being adopted by the plane manufacturers.

Did anyone watch the documentary last night on the airline industry on BBC2? They were showing a new design of lighter aircraft with a different material that would save loads of money, how the material didn't stretch/yield and so they could pump more oxygen into the plane for a more comfortable passenger experience, but did need copper mesh laid on top to protect against lightning strikes. I just wondered if that new material was potentially with graphene (and they didn't say to protect IP). Or if that was pre-graphene and thus further enhancements in the airline industry will come (I'm aware research is ongoing).

I currently live near an airport and quieter planes would be great (although they didn't say they would be quieter, but I live in hope that this will be an upshot at some point).

Indeed, and from my own research, as well as layers, quality counts equally as well. Ie defect free, pristine - as much as possible gets closest to producing the 'wow' results researchers find using 'single layer.' I imagine when chinese testing panel concluded +nanene has 'certain quality' this is what they mean. And thus why neill says per poddy from collab testing + nanene improves everything it goes into. And why we have multiple multinational firms under nda/announced collabs. Plus huge china opportunity, growing exponentially, and other worldwide country interest. If you research on the web, you can see that defects in graphite material edges can fool raman spec to indicate a 2D signal (ie under 10 layers). Chinese validation therefore is very encouraging for vrs. Aimo. Dyor. Best ellis

Just a couple of observations following on from the James Baker interview that was discussed yesterday....

Firstly, Fest, if you haven't listened to it you really should do so as it may allay some of your fears. In it they expressly name Versarien as an 'excellent company' within the space.

Secondly, to those who appear to feel that the team are dragging their feet, James points out that carbon fibre (just as an example) took 25/30 years to get the first products to market. Graphene is only 15 years old and is currently at that inflection point, so quite an achievement. He makes the point that we have reached the stage where we have a greater commercial 'pull' as opposed to the academic 'push' which you see when a new material is first discovered. Looks like 2019 really could be a very exciting year for the industry and specifically for VRS.

With regards the speed of our collaborations, most/many are less than a year old, the XG Sciences/Ford collaboration began in 2014 (le/2019/01/ford-xg-sciences-go-under-hood-graphene). Perhaps some just have to alter their expectations on what is a fair timescale.

A further point which I thought was interesting was the comment that the trend amongst the academics working within the graphene community are more focused towards other 2d materials. He mentions that they have probably even more exciting prospects now because of the possibilities of combining different materials to create a stack of advanced materials .... (as if the possibilities for graphene weren't mind boggling enough!).

We obviously have launched Hexotene but does anyone know of any other companies that have made any other 2d materials commercially available?

NR was the inaugural member of the NGA in the US I believe. Does anyone know what has happened about the accreditation (if that is the right word) of VRS products by them? Apologies if this has been answered already in previous posts.

As NR knows, very early on (years ago) he told me over 10 layers and performance falls off a cliff. It wasn’t clear why back then.

As stated at various points, rather than except that line I went on the hunt for scientific evidence to support the comment and to try and find out why over 10 layers average saw poor performance.

Dr Andrew Deakin and a retired scientist joined in and we went through dozens of papers showing that NRs comment was correct.

We also found comments in some re the issue for multi-layer which is the weak bond between the layers. Hence they can actually cause a drop in strength. In one case the more GNPs they added the weaker the polymer became. A peak of 80% weaker than the polymer on it’s own.

We sent some papers to the 2dtech guys in a hope of answering gaps in their knowledge. That included the details pf what is in those Head ‘graphene̵7; tennis rackets. It’s only in the throat of the racket and it’s not graphene but multi-layer graphite. Muti-layer can help re modulus due to the slipping platlets.

Mike B unknown to me had been quietly been doing his own research and was silently going through many of the links we listed. He then popped up with his comprehensive reports and that was the first time I was really aware of him.

I know him now, great guy, trusts nothing and does a huge amount of research.

"David Cameron to lead £750m UK-China investment initiative."

'Former prime minister will take charge of £750m fund to improve transport links between China and its trading partners.'

Nicola Slawson Sat 16 Dec 2017

"...A spokesman for the former prime minister said he was “very proud of his work launching the golden era between the UK and China with President Xi” and his efforts to strengthen bilateral trade and investment while in office.

In an effort to build on that work out of office, he wishes to play a role in a new UK-China bilateral investment fund that will invest in innovative and sustainable growth opportunities in both the UK and China to create jobs and further boost trade links,” the spokesman said.

Hammond also announced other measures included accelerating the final preparations for the London-Shanghai “stock connect” initiatives, which will mean investors in each country will be able to trade shares listed on the other’s stock exchange...."

Quite amazing to see some of the sanctimonius twaddle posted on this bulletin board.

"BB board "norms." "Sell and leave if you are questioning your investment."

Anybody who has got a significant sum of money invested in a share should always be questioning why they have. If you aren't questioning it, I suggest you are the one who shouldn't be investing in the stockmarket. You are one of the gullible. Whilst you may think you are all geniuses for finding this share, a lot is still down to luck. You may have done your "research" but for a lot that will have been reading Superg and Mike's and others synopsis. That doesn't include a load of copy and paste about markets that we will basically never address.

Most of us just understand the odds are in our favour, in a potentially massive market and are happy with that. We also think that the management is doing a great job in the struggle to be the leading company in this sector. But even the management can't forecast the future, so why some on here should think they can see it, I have no idea.

Not very often I take issue with SuperG, but the following comment, "Just 1 it seems meets the standard (VRS) hence the huge interest from them.'
Whilst I agree it is probably unlikely, the Chinese assertion was that ours had passed the test, not that no other had.
Just in the interest of clarification.

Also from RNS 20/07/18 "The Company is pleased to announce that it has been selected to be The Graphene Council's launch client for their 'Verified Graphene Producer' programme, which will independently verify that the Company's Nanene graphene nano platelets meet their demanding standards."
If I remember correctly "we were working though August" on this. Yet 6 months on and no result? Did we not pass?

If you are not thinking about these kind of things like Fest then you should be. Always revisiting "facts", questioning your investment, not like some "moonie" believer.

Haven't sold any shares only added to over time. Did sell my spreadbet positions though.

Good luck all.

Great post mjatkin. Agreed tini - i've posted reviews before how the speakers/sound quality let down 'alexa' and the rest. AND these devices are best sellers. Massive market potential. Aimo. Best ellis

EDIT - i see bose headphones in top 3 selling products too ! Best ellis.

"Amazon also brags about sales figures for Amazon Devices, including Amazon Echo, Fire, and Kindle ;products, for the 2018 holiday period. The company says it sold "millions more" Amazon Devices this year than it has in years past. It lists the Echo Dot, the entry-level Alexa speaker, at the top of its list of best-selling products across categories (along with L.O.L. Surprise! Glam Glitter Series Doll, Carhatt gear, and Bose QuietComfort headphones)."

"Amazon’s Echo Dot may have been a bestseller on Prime Day, but Google’s Home Mini device is now the top-selling smart speaker worldwide, according to a new reportout this morning from Strategy Analytics. The analyst firm says Google’s small speaker accounted for 1 in 5 smart speaker shipments in Q2 2018, edging out the Echo Dot with its 2.3 million global shipments compared to Echo Dot’s 2.2 million.

Combined, these two entry-level smart speakers – the Echo Dot and Home Mini – accounted for 38% of global shipments, the firm found."

Again, true. But again, very far from being the biggest potential market in terms of quantities of graphene. Although I suppose it could be very lucrative when one thinks about how much the end products sell for.

Anyway, there's no sign of large-scale adoption in that sector either - yet - so as usual this is all hypothetical...

Forgot to add all those smart speakers people have now - Google Home, Alexa etc.

Then think global. It’s a significant market.

tini - all true. But still relatively small amounts of nanene required compared to tyres, composites, construction, plastics etc.

Its now just over a year since I started investing. I’ve learnt so much, made silly mistakes, made some lucky money, read many many books. However, there has been no better education into the mindset of the investor than this board. I’ve seen exceptional research, ramping, bitterness, impatience, fear, ecstasy, deceit. It’s like the seven deadly sins all being played out before my eyes. Through the bounces and the crashes it’s amazing how sentiment has changed for some. The fear and greed continuum. I’ve seen many respected posters turn to jelly and in some cases monsters. Understanding this and responding appropriately, should unlock the stock market for me. It’s clear to me that VRS week by week gets into a stronger position and a depressed share prices simply offers me a wonderful opportunity to build up my stake. If news came tomorrow that caused a complete rerate, that would be the end of my top ups and I’d have to accept my stake. Why would I want that now? I’m still earning, I have another baby on the way and want to load up her junior ISA too. The story getting better and the share price lagging is exactly what I want. Only Fools and Horses gets quoted a lot on shares and although it wasn’t exactly my taste, I’m pretty sure the whole point was they were happiest when they were wheeler dealers trying to make it, not actually making it. This is where the fun was. So enjoy the ride, enjoy the fact you are involved in the 4th revolution and helping nurture graphene as it starts to walk and talk.

Govt policy is all evidence based these days (Baker said something similar in his graphene council interview). can't do any harm that neill had a one to one convo with philip hammond. Well done neill. A successful start to geic for example - could see govt investment follow - similar to faraday challenge. Naming 'graphene' officially as the 5th (or is it 6th?) sector in govt industrial strategy would do 2D materials very well, and those invested in them too i imagine. Aimo. Best ellis
