Well indeed hew, the abstract for the battery research application was a compelling read, but unsure if his methodology could transfer across to graphene or other 2D materials, despite the presence of thomas swan. Probably not. In short, vrs/gnano look to have a very good offering. Exciting to think what collabs they might enter into with this battery tech. Aimo. Atb. Ellis

Anyway, others do carbon nitride too !,
"We present the one-step aqueous exfoliation of the layered carbon nitride poly(triazine imide), which leads to colloidally stable suspensions of ultrathin crystalline nanosheets of 1–2 nm in height. Successful delamination was verified by AFM and TEM. The exfoliation process was investigated by ssNMR of 15N-enriched PTI nanosheets. The nanosheets show a significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution from water as compared to their bulk counterpart, which is testament to the importance of morphology control in photocatalytic water splitting."

While I appreciate it is only speculation that VRS could release something concerning China expansion prior to the visit to America, has anyone actually asked if this is even realistic? At AGM or on Twitter?

I strongly suspect a decent deal as one is tangibly close and the MOU being signed with an entity in China. I also suggest that the underlying strength in the share price is evidence that I am not alone in thinking this way. Will that do?

Ellis, read your follow-up links on the UCL/Thomas Swan Fellowship with interest. Thanks. Re "competition" with VRS/Gnano I draw some comfort that from my scan reading of the paper, the researcher (with others) seems to taken a solid form of carbon nitride and, in simplistic terms, dissolved it in a particular solvent where the thermodynamic forces (rattling it about!) causes it to separate (slide?) apart into few-layer pieces, the pieces substantially preserving the original crystalline structure.

But no mention that carbon nitride and battery aspects are linked (though the Claire G lecture certainly referred to several forms of carbon). Also he is just kicking off on a 3 year project. So I'm not holding my breath. My ignorance on the matter is considerable though!
Thanks for your work - valuable.

EDIT: From the Conclusions: " In summary, we have demonstrated the spontaneous dissolution of crystalline carbon nitride compounds in select polar solvents, yielding solutions of pristine, defect-free, semiconducting 2D nanosheets."

Ellis, I expect you’re right in both respects, particularly in that we may hope the Gnanomat tech is better/ best.

Think super and ultra capacitors are the same thing hover? And yes, vrs/gnano breakthrough is to increase supercap energy density? :) Aimo. Best ellis

Re that ucl and thomas swan battery collab, i found this science paper from the lead researcher. Previous work includes a method to produce carbon nitride. The following quote seems to provide the spec of the nano sheet, ie upto 3.2nm. A layer of carbon nitride is 0.3-4nm. Therefore, do the maths and this is likely multilayer? Whether this latest project involves an attempt at graphene/graphite, who knows, just '2D' materials is quoted. Aimo. Best ellis

"The distribution of nanosheet heights above the mica support was automatically extracted for >2400 nanosheets together with their corresponding areas (SI Section 1, methods). This analysis confirmed the presence of uniform 2D objects with heights up to a few nanometers (Figure 3h–j). The data reveal that the nanosheets exhibit a range of thicknesses and sheet areas, with maxima close to ∼3.2 nm and ∼1500 nm2, respectively."

Profile of researcher here.

Carbon nitride research here.

Size of carbon nitride single layer is 0.3-4nm here.

Seems to be just half an hour session per company.

Any idea why VRS is doing this new session? Are we waiting for new blood? probably before some global expansion?

Just asking.

My understanding is that Skeleton’s product is an ultra capacitor high in energy power, low in energy density so not a battery replacement but a supplement and a means of relieving the battery of short term, high load and capable of quickly and efficiently absorbing charge generated by braking or a crane’s load being lowered.

Found this, a 2D materials battery research project and thomas swan collab. Look to be playing catch up with vrs? And could they ever compete with +nanene and graphinks ? Aimo. Best ellis

MikeB - re 37387. Agreed. Skeletontech's relatively advanced stage of getting product to market - at first sight IMO about 2 to 3 years ahead of Gnanomat - is another reason why your suggestion that they are using a form of graphite is probably right. As we here know, sub-10-layer FLG was not available in quantity when they were building their production lines.
